Rogue incoming link

I check my website stats regularly and noticed that I had an incoming link, several times, from a site I didn't recognise. Sooooooooooo.....I clicked on it......and to be honest.....I'm shocked........I didn't know positions existed like that....ouch!

Why is it appearing as an incoming link? I did check through the page (much to my disgust) but I couldn't see a link anywhere. And why would a porn site link to mine or is it something more sinister? And lastly......is there a way I can stop it?

You can't stop a site from linking to you by doing anything at your end.

You could contact the webmaster of the website and ask them to delete the link. If it is really serious or illegal then you should contact their ISP and hosting provider.

A potential sinister reason for the link could be a phishing scam that has been setup on your website. This would mean that your website has been infiltrated. This could be the case if you have a generic CMS/Blog site. For example, if you install Wordpress and fail to change the defaults then you would be open for a hack.

If in doubt, hire a web professional.

It's referrer spam. There is no link to your website from the site you visited. The entry in your log files was forcefully generated by a robot, the purpose of which was to get you to do what you actually did - visit the (porn?) site in question. This strategy only works for small businesses and websites, where someone backtracks every link to its source.

its nothing to worry about really

just make sure you dont have any spiderable stats pages that would encourage this kind of thing
