I agree with LT that it is not worth submitting your website to the likes of Google, instead just get other sites to link to your site and before you know it .... you're listed!
As for DMOZ, as it is a volunteer operation where people give up their spare time to add your sites to it, it is considered a "privaledge" rather than a "right" to have your site listed on DMOZ so to speak. I am an editor on their myself, and I only log into the system no more than once a month really to check on any submissions. Out of all the sites I have to go through on DMOZ, for every 1 site that is legit there is 20 that are spam one way or another (ie. a site that is already listed has setup another 20 sites for themselves in an atempt to get listed).
Each site that is submitted has to have a WHOIS check, their T&C's read through, contact information checked, IP address of their host checked, and a dummy order placed to see the name of the company tacking payment. Each site takes about 30-45 minutes to approve. That is why it takes a long time to approve a listing on DMOZ.
