Recommendations for a notebook

OK I'm selling my monster sized laptop as it's a little too cumbersome to take away with me on short breaks and holidays and I'm looking for recommendations for a notebook.

No real budget in mind but it must:

Have Windows 7 installed
Built in WiFi
Reasonable sized (10") screen
All the usual gumph such as USB/Ethernet
Speed is fairly important so I would be prepared to sacrifice HD size for RAM/Processor

Any recommendations?

On a side note, if anyone wants to but the existing laptop, PM me. It's an Advent 9117 but with 2GB RAM instead of the normal 1GB. I'll even chuck in the case

Have used all those in the past, Acer offer fairly robust, low-cost. Toshiba are built to last, Samsung - pretty good quality and fairly priced.

I was going to buy a new laptop recently as my Acer had started running like a pig - then HD died - I bought a new one - had no Windows install CD so took a punt on Ubuntu OS and am completely converted - how operating systems should be - Windows could learn a thing or two from those guys.. most important to me is its a whiz to add new software from their software library and it doesn't seem to hog the processor, leaving it free to work on other things!

Yup those are the manufacturers I was looking at too. As for Ubuntu, for various reasons it needs to be Windows...

First choice for me would be Toshiba - budget permitting.

Next Choice Samsung - have used other peoples samsungs and have various Samsung kit at home - and it all works well

Acer - if you are on a budget - then you could do much worse..

Advent - I hate!

Good deal but I have a 17" widescreen at the moment which is too cumbersome. Ideally I'm looking for something with a 12" screen ish...

I would go for the MSI Wind (or you can get the pc world / currys version) or the samsung N range of netbooks ...

I have the advent version of the MSI Wind and it's great.

I've just got a Dell Adamo the specs of it are not amazing, but the SSD disk really does make a difference, it boots up in around 7 seconds!

I've got a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13" for sale if your interested Few months old, very little use and still in warranty.

I'd recommend Samsung netbooks - I use one to take with me onsite and even though it's been lugged around, it's still running smoothly and is fairly robust.

Have you seen the Dell M101z, seems a nice bit of kit and comes in at under £500 for the top spec

Yep I did look at Dell but for £120 less, the Acer has a slightly larger, but still comfortable sized screen...

I bought myself Dell Adamo Desire(2.13 Ghz cpu, 256GB SSD, 4 GB RAM) version few days ago, on its way to me 128GB SSD does not support TRIM feature, otherwise would buy 1.4 Ghz version with 128 GB SSD.
