Random muse about cars and stuff

You asked a question, I gave a considered response, and you picked through it to find something you could disagree with. Obviously I needed to generalise, and obviously you will find a exceptions.
Take the post in the spirit it was written, and realise there is more to these car threads than you thought.
Sorry, I stopped reading your post after your second sentence as that part had already shown a lack of understanding of anything outside your own experience.

To me, those indicate that you are one of life's spectators. Family history, archaeology and reading are very much about what other people have done (and achieved) leaving you to simply discover or read about their achievements.
Do you not read about cars, research the stats etc.,? ;)

My great uncle was an Archaeologist who probably dug up half of Suffolk in his lifetime, locating, planning, digging out sites of historical interest and importance.

My other great Uncles passion was family history. Way before the internet made it a simple search project he visited churchyards and record offices across the east of England, finally stopping when the leads ran dry.............in the 13th century.

Why do people (primarily men) care so much about their means of transport?

Status symbols for many. Range Rover drivers don't need a Bentley Bentayga!

I'm sure a psychologist somewhere could give a more informed view but I, like most minor petrolheads, do like to feast my eyes on the curves of a well designed car. My 19 year old BMW Z3 is of a particular model and condition that I quite happily sit in the garden having a cuppa whilst admiring her iconic lines.

Beats me.

When I see a £50,000 car on what used to be the front lawn of a cheap house I do wonder what on earth is going on. It seems to me to be mostly about showing off and status signalling

Women do it with clothes, handbags, cosmetics and surgery.

People are weird.

When you earn £1,000,000 per year after a few years what else can you spend the money on apart from Frivolous expensive toys

Girls are always competing against other girls which is why they always give compliments to each other and love to show their status as best of the pack

Although some may receive it, does anyone earn £1,000,000 a year?

And some earn it but don't receive it.

It's a funny old world when we pay a footballer more than a nurse.

I'm afraid that I disagree as people that have the money often want the best that money can buy and if a Bentley Bentayga is a better drive than a Range Rover then why not buy one.

If car buying was based only on need then most people would be driving a Dacia

I'll counter that by saying that that the badge is as or more important otherwise VW drivers would be driving Skoda's. I don't think this is just a male orientated thing though.

A slight thread hijack, but a company has just opened on our estate supplying Bencialaga clothing who's t-shirts sell for up to £595, and a Hi-Viz Parka, that is no different at fist glance - logo aside- to the ones you'd buy from any workwear store. Yours for a tempting £2,890!

Definitely not as my wife's car buying is based 90% on the looks of the car. I'm sure that she would like a VW but not a Skoda for the simple reason that they are pig ugly. Actually she has gone for the one in the middle and drives a Seat Ibiza which i must admit is quite a nice car to drive

Whilst I might admire someone who drives a Bencialaga I would laugh at anyone wearing their T shirt or parka as it might as well have knob engraved on the back
