Push Notifications or email subscribers?

Hey!

So what's the best way to collect subscribers? Push notifications or collecting emails, like mailchimp?

Seems nowadays every site wants you to accept their push notifications and mailchimp is limited unless you willing to pay. Thoughts?

If it's of use, push notifications on a website will make me quickly leave a website and never come back (unless it is one where notifications make sense). There's also an approved standard to come soon built in to browsers which will prevent websites from doing this (i,e blogs asking if you want to receive notifications and/or subscribe).

The best way to collect opt-in subscribers will largely depend on the nature of your website.

Annoys me that you buy something from a website and they take that to mean its ok to spam you when they've not asked.

yeah I dont like that either, nor the pop up, but I was thinking of embedding a push notification button, but I'll think more

We use both an email list and push notifications, Sendinblue is cheaper than Mailchimp btw and has a nicer interface too... and use onepush for push notifications. However, we do only use push notifications now and again as we do not want to annoy the audience that has taken time to build. Pushes only used once or twice per month to announce the publication of a new article and this has an instant effect on visitors to the website. A mix of both works well, if done right and always remaining conscious of the recipient.
