Hello!

My mates and I run a small internet business providing online lessons of the Chinese language (standard Mandarin, the national language). It's our first time running such an operation, so far it's been completely web-enabled (that is to say, we don't have a brick-and-mortar office as such). The lessons are for beginners and have audio recordings of our Chinese friends performing the dialogues and such.

Good for you Michelle, sounds interesting. Spending a fair amount of time in Asia, learning Mandarin and/or Cantonese are on my hit list of things to do so I may well be in touch.

BTW, welcome:)

Hello Michelle :)

That sounds interesting... and you say it's free? I'll definitely have a look - I love learning new languages.

Welcome to the forum, hope you find it useful!

Yep, it's free! No cost, at least none so far. It has mp3s and PDFs, you have to right click on them to download or you can left click and view it in your browser. The idea is that you are supposed to download the materials, print it out,and you can put the audio on your ipod or whatever mp3 player you use.

The idea is basically massive, directed input. Like what you would get from your parents as a baby - the same simple words repeated a massive number of times - it's how linguists postulate our brains assemble languages in our mind when we are growing up.

This site is too lovely!!! Thank you Michelle.

I've been thinking of relocating to Shanghai so this could be a big help :)
