Protx or world Pay?

I've just read 9 pages of 'sticky' in this section. I now need the answer to this;
Based on your experience or expectations, which of the above would you choose?

Protx coupled with a merchant account, no contest.

You will get your money in five working days
You shouldn't need to pay large deposits
Lower transaction fees
Better integration capabilities along with recuriring billing (WP charge extra for that IIRC)
Protx won't charge you the set-up fee all over again if you change your company name. Can you guess why I told them to shove it?

We've used Worldpay for years as it's simple for the layman.

The terms Phil describes above are not the terms Worldpay give me. I get better terms.

We are just changing from Worldpay to Protx. For us we will get our money quicker and cheaper transactions.

You can negotiate with Worldpay but with their new pricing structure for new customers I doubt you'll get anywhere near a good a deal as Protx and bank merchant account. That said Worldpay is great if you don't have accounts history to support a bank merchant account application.

I remember this happening to Phil with Worldpay but they seemed to have changed their policies when we did the same later, there were no extra charges. The loss of Openmind must have just been far too painful for them.

It was just their attitude at the time, it really got up my nose so away I went..

Oddly enough within a few months of leaving my monthly volume went up by about 500% as I aquired helmstore.com Saved an absolute fortune by moving...

I'd go for (and have gone for) ProTX too, for all the reasons Phil mentions

We have had Worldpay before and they are expensive. I did not think the admin panel was that easy to operate for the layman

We are going to develop an e-commerce site and will use SECpay which tend to be cheaper

If you are selling a few products you may need a payment processor that charges per transaction rather than %, or whichever works our cheaper.

WorldPay are good if you can't be approved by the banks for a merchant account however I know when we used to use them the transaction charges were very high plus the time to get your money was 8 weeks to start with (Eventually down to 7 days).

We've been using ProtX/BMS for about 2 years now. We've got excellent rates and we get our money on the same day

I think it is good to check few more option like moneybookers, ChronoPay, nochex, authorize.net etc especially for the best offering and getting sure about their service and support.

I think when we looked at Protx we thought it looked good but we would need to do such a large volume of orders to make it cheaper than our current worldpay deal it wasn't worth it to move.

I think that probably, whoever you are with, once you have established that you are a reliable merchant with a good turnover your payment service provider will match any other offers out there to avoid loosing you.

Merchant accounts, it's been a while since I looked, but they used to be expensive and very difficult to get if you were trading online. So make sure you can definately get one before blowing WorldPay out.

It depends really as you have to use Protx in conjunction with a merchant account. It usually depends on sales volume as well so you'd need to have a phone round to do an accurate comparison for your own business.

Worldpay can be quite expensive but it is a good product for a new or small business.

Protx acts as a link between your website and the merchant account. Some merchants accounts, like the HSBC and streamline ones, also include the link as an optional extra.

Basically Protx are responsible for the interaction part, communicating with the banks to pass or decline the payment.

My merchant account is with HSBC and I gateway with it directly and operate 3D secure and fraud protect. I get my money overnight when goods ship. Genuine question this, I don't quite see what role Protx could play in that process?

Well in your case Protx wouldn't be a part of your set-up as HSBC are alredy providing the link between your site and your merchant account.

OT: Even though the HSBC direct integration is one of the most convoluted and complex I have seen

Just as an update, I've gone with ProtX 'cause they have a deal on that includes the acceptance of American Express - just in case Goldctrsteve want to purchase my product!!
