Problem with ee roaming

am a sole trader, so its vital i keep in touch with new and existing while I’m on holiday

I was unable to make a call from abroad last week back to the UK so I bought a roaming package from EE but I was still unable to make or receive calls at all. I spent three hours at various times with the chat line and they promised they would resolve it, but they never did. I spoke to them this morning and they’ve offered me £20 compensation which is obviously derisory.

I lost around £2000 in business that I was unable to set up for when I got back from holiday plus the reputational damage of existing customers not able to contact me for help. I’m going to sue EE for compensation. Can anybody tell me what address I need to take out the summons in and do you have a name of someone that can write to in the first instance to apply for the compensation, which I’m sure they will refuse.

Why couldn't you make a call? In my experience, it is because of the network selection - switching off automatic network selection on the handset and choosing a network resolved things for me

If there was £2k worth of business at stake, couldn't you have used a landline or buy a local SIM card?

I also use EE and spend a lot of time in Portugal.
Whenever I am here I cannot receive calls on my UK telephone number.
I tried everything including putting extra credit on it to no avail.
It just goes to voicemail when people try to call me.
I ended up getting a UK Geographic VoIP number and installing a soft phone on my mobile. Ridiculous that I had to do that.

When I spent a lot of time in Spain I just bought a Spanish mobile and set up a pay as you go account. They much stricter on identity checks but easy enough to do. Although when in the marina with a wifi connection never had any problem with calls or my trading platforms.

In fact I would go as far as saying its the UK thats got a problem with mobile coverage its crap

How did you know about the business. Were you receiving incoming calls? If I knew in advance of a £2k opportunity I would have taken more steps to ensure my holiday did not jeopardise it.

Were you on holiday alone? No one around youo willing to lend their 'phone?

You could surely have found a land line somewhere.

I can't show much sympathy, I am afraid.

I couldn't use adifferent number as my website has munumber on it, which didn't work.
The point is not only could I not make calls, I couldn't receive them either.
Change the number on the site while you are on holiday.

Or use a call answering service.
