Would like to comment on something in this thread.

Website architecture is one of the most fundamental yet least understood aspects of SEO, and one which is especially important for eCommerce sites and other sites with a large number of pages. I would venture as far as to suggest that this is one of the things which separates the men from the boys when it comes to SEO, and one which only really comes with time and experience. There are valuable lessons to be learned from owg's post on this thread, I'd recommend that anyone with an interest about SEO for large scale sites have a good read through this reply and apply some of that structural, architectural thinking to their site if they're considering either a new site or a redesign. It's unbelievably easy to mess up the power of a site with a redesign that isn't done with SEO architecture in mind.

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to know if anyone has paid for their site to be optimised and if so how much roughly did it cost?
Ive just been quoted £250 for an initial consultation and optimisation of the site with an aditional £250 spread across the year for reports on how the keywords ect are performing.
Is this about right? I must admit i thought it sounded a bit steep, i dont want to get ripped off!
Many thanks
John

An initial consultation should be free. The cost of SEO is usually determined by how many hours each month are needed on the site. SEO isnt something thats done and thats it. It needs to be worked on regularly to maintain results. If you get page 1 positions for spending that then let me know but in my experience you wont. I spend a lot more than that but am listed on page 1 of Google on over 46 keywords and phrases and get about a 400% return on my spend from online business.

I think people want something for free these days!! An initial consultation may well be free, But £250 over a whole year if that was one hour a month the hourly rate would only be £20...

So either it is cheap or the SEO guy will not be doing anything.

When I say dirt cheap I compare with how much other trades charge.. :)

What would ou say is a fair hourly rate? How much do you charge/earn per hour?

Further to my post above, the SEO guy could do one hours work for the year and charge £250!! :)

SEO/SEM is a continuse exercise, you can do it yourself, if you have the time or you can pay someone, that is why people do...whether it be for this or plumbers or accountants... :)

The reason is purely because they designed the site and i'm pretty happy with it, the company is called K designs in Derby, www.ourcreativework.com
Silverlake.
I notice you have a recommendation from Derby football club.
I have done work for a lot of top football players recently and would like to ask who you approached to get this. I can not use names or anything on any of my literature or web site but it would push my street cred through the roof if I could.
