Phone numbers for local services site

I currently have a voip number with voipfone that redirects to a mobile. it's an 0121 Birmingham area code number. Having checked today much it has cost over about 12 months, It seems people still do call these lol.

I am leaning towards ditching the mobile number to simplify things. One number that i can control to point at whichever persons phone it needs to.

Do you think that will have any impact?

Or should i go with one 0800... i've always personally looked at local companies with 08 numbers as expensive, but maybe that's just me.

And maybe some people might not realise 0800 is free to call?

It's a head ache.

If you are out and about and want a local landline number take a look at the Vodafone one net system. I use it for my business with 8 local numbers around the country all end up on my mobile. The cost £10 per number per month. Vastly cheaper than call forwarding plus we have a number of mobiles in the group (so the call hunts to available phone) so we have a number of call receivers on the system all receiving calls on mobiles not tied to an office.

I'm not quite seeing what you want to do or why.

You don't need to divert to a mobile if you don't want to, you can use a VoIP telephone and answer it directly at no cost - only diverting to another phone when you need to. You can even do it automatically using our free GeoDivert app. You can divert to any number of phones.

If you're a local company, it's best to use a local number. 0800 numbers are generally used in adverts.

Give us a call if you need to sort out your options.

Yes i want to stick with the local, i think eventually i'm going to just have one person taking messages and getting the details, but i'll keep diverting so they're not chained to a desk.

Guess what i'm really wondering is if it's advantageous leaving a mobile number alongside the local.

We have a PA service that can do that for you now. Works just like a divert. Turn it on and off as you like, paygo.

Thats always difficult. If you put a mobile as well as a landline on your website it looks like you're a one man band. But if you are and you don't mind that signal - if you're a plumber say - fine. It depends on the image you want to project.

That is appealing, to take some load off. With what i'm hoping to achieve taking calls will sometimes be troublesome. Will just be a case of working out all the individual services i'm going to offer and putting some decent scripts together for each. I'll certainly bear that in mind.

Yes that's what i was thinking, it conveys a different image. I think i want it to look more substantial than a one man band now. If i can get the site looking more professional, laid out well, with many pages covering different domestic services, boilers, kitchens, property repairs and get the google rankings, which i know i can do, i'm sure there will be a steady stream of enquiries. I'll be looking to utilise subcontractors for a lot of the work, so i've just decided the one man band is going to have to go.
