Hello,

I need recommendation on payroll software that can work for around 20 employees, please let me know if there is any affordable though effective payroll software.

Thanks

We used Sage for years but gave up after year end 2013 - the only time you need Sage cover and it took 2.5 hours to get answered. On accountants recommendation changed to Payroll Master £60. I find it very much easier than Sage.

To be honest, I don't have any experience of payroll, I was going purely on my experience of Sage instant accounts, which personally I find really easy to use.

Thanks for your replies, I found a review page which looks good to me, please let me know if QuickBooks is the best as of now as I'm seeing good review of QuickBooks.

The best payroll by far, online, access all times, no updates, employees get emailed wage slips and account. RTI sorted, reports more than you ever need, great value. This program has kept me right, in control and on the right side of HMRC, after the investigation....
ableinternetpayroll.com couldn't recommend it enough.

Hi,

I use a company called eSlip / Fullpayrollservices.co.uk. Costs about £40 pcm for up to 10 employees.

They are great, one email a month to them and I get a full pdf package back and payslips in the post a few days later.

Can't recommend enough.

Hi,

I recommend Sage Payroll. Its good for any business with more than 10 employees, easy to use and has all the tools you need to run an effective payroll.

Thanks

I regularly get my hands on Sage, Quickbooks and Moneysoft and would say that Moneysoft is by far the easier and quicker software - also an awful lot cheaper than the other two.

I absolutely hated sage payroll. I honestly couldn't accurate convey my dislike of that product accurately without risking a ban.

I found out in the end that the best software for us was no software! I now email the details to a payroll agency once a month and get everything back next day. Absolutely painless, costs me about £4 per head and I don't have to deal with Sage or pay for their software updates.

If you want a number let me know.

I've heard some good things about 12pay and moneysoft.

Or do as neildudman suggested and outsource, not at £40 PCM for 10 employees though! :)

!!! MONEYSOFT is number ONE !!!

I am using Moneysoft Manager 250 for more than 10 yrs and never had a problem. I wanted a bit more from this piece of software so I looked around for something else. I tried most other payroll softwares you can find on the marked and I did not find something easier than Moneysoft. Many others have more "toys" but that requires time. For 100 employees (or/ and 250 subcontractors) I spend 2 hrs/ week using MONEYSOFT MANAGER 250.

Get this one, you will be happy with it :)

Regards,
Toni

We had a VERY bad experience with 'Keytime' and have moved to an easy to use product called 12pay - it comes in 3 grades and for 20 employees will only cost you £56/year - 12pay are upfront in that they tell you that you will need a second year licence to do the year-end work, but with much more expensive products like Keytime you have the same requirement but they keep it quiet until after the event.

I use Moneysoft and would recommend it to anyone. Alternatively I would also recommend that you outsource to a good payroll supplier, like me :). I agree with Puddle above, £40 per month for 10 employees who are paid monthly is a very high rate.

Xero now includes payroll and it is directly integrated with your accounting. Run payroll and update your accounting all in one step and for one price.

When looking at payroll software, make sure it has either an auto enrolment capability or can easily connect to a third party AE system.

'Should you need to be AE compliant, of course.'

Yes, but in my experience, almost everyone who uses payroll software will need to be. In reality, going forward, only a handful of businesses will not and I believe it is only a matter of time before the exemption criteria is narrowed!

For what it's worth, we use Quickbooks and they have obviously fixed the problems outlined in the rant thread linked to.

I find it pretty straightforward to use and it's nice having accounting and payroll in one package. I haven't had any problems with it (been using it since 2011).
