PAT Testing - is there more to it than this?

Being always on the lookout for new things I've been looking at getting onto PAT testing.

First impressions look like to can do a 1 or 2 day course, spend £500 on kit and start trading as a PAT tester.

Is there more to it than this?
Is there a lack of PAT testers in some areas?

Any info appreciated.

Essentially - that is it !

you can get on-line courses as well.

You only have to be 'competent', to do PAT testing as far as I remember!

Most electricians can offer this service, a lot of small businesses dont bother with testing. If it is a large company, you can be working at night as the equipment is in use during the day. Very boring working on your own in a deserted office!

One of the companies I worked for - we used to borrow (hire) the equipment off another electrical firm when we did testing. It printed the labels and downloaded the results at the end of the contract. Worthwhile getting decent equipment if you are looking at buying it yourself - it will save you time/money in the long run.

Best regards

Yes, It is essentially that simple.

Because of this it is an industry with a fair amount of chancers involved.

I've seen items passed that have no inner working in them (I'd stripped them out to be re-furbed at our workshop).
