Notice period during probation

Hello,
I started work last month full time for a new company and I really do not enjoy it. The job is completely different to how I had anticipated and I'm losing sleep due to how much I am dreading going into work the next day. I am currently still in my probation period whereby my notice period is one week. Ideally I want to hand in my notice today and be able to leave after I have handed in my notice, as I feel the atmosphere with my colleagues could turn quite nasty after handing in my notice.

Can anyone advise on what you think I should do? As I am struggling to cope.

Thanks

Probably not popular opinion, but if it's really affecting your health and wellbeing just walk into the office, tell your manager it's not for you and leave. What they gonna do? Chain you to your workspace?

Unless you really need the money of course :) As they may not pay time served?

No rules or regs would force me to do somethig that I REALLY did not want to do.

Thank you Mike.

I am not desperate for the money no and I do not need them for a reference as I have found another role which just requires a reference and does not need a reference from my most recent employer in particular.

You've put my mind at ease

Hand it in then say your going home as you don't feel well.
That is what I am thinking. I know you can sign yourself off for 7 days by yourself however I doubt they will accept this. If I went to my doctor and explain my circumstances and my stress can they sign me off for 4/5 days? Or can they only sign me off for over 7 days.

you self certificate but you are genuinely stressed so doc should sign that off. I doubt it would get to that though.

You have only been there one month and is affecting your mental wellbeing so you need to be out there asap before lasting harm or damage is done.

As a sign of respect to others hand in you resignation, go home and start looking for a suitable job, good luck.

Whats the problem with your job? Tasks you cannot do? Work colleagues you dont like? Job something different than you thought?

We might be able to help you.

But if you decide to quit then ask yourself will you be listing this months work on your CV? If not you dont need to give the full notice. I would ask for a meeting with the manager, say this job isn't for you, and end your contract.

ultimatly if you just tell them the truth and that it doesn't work for you, then there is nothing they can do. agree that you do/don't worth the notice and part ways amicably.
