Hi Joe,
I set up my bookeeping and payroll business and i have found it difficult to gain clients despite trying lots of different methods.The main obstacle is that people are mainly having books done by friends/relatives ao are doing them on their own so they say they do not need a bookkeeper in my opinion this is where the MLR guidelines are unfair.

I have stopped spending a lot of money on advertising as it didn't get results and instead have resorted to putting up business cards in places that are free ie notice boards and in local shop windows for about 50p per week.
I have even tried cold calling on over 100 local businesses and this did not produce anything .The local accountants in my area are not out sourcing any work at present but you could perhaps try asking local accountants if they can out source work to you.
Sorry i can't be more helpfull as i am in the same situation as you at the moment i think it is a case of keep at it and try to get your name out as much as possible . I was told by a local accountant that it will probably take 3 or 4 years to build up a decent practice.

Hello all,

I run a business called mai-solutions providing management accountancy solutions to a range of clients in North Yorkshire and the North East. We provide the management accountancy and accounts management functions and sub-contract bookkeepers as and when required to tailor the outsourced finance package to a client's needs.

The business has grown rapidly since commencing to trade in January 2010 and we currently have a number of opportunities to provide contract hours to bookkeepers in Teesside and Darlington. Ideally we would like to build a close working relationship with one or two more bookkeepers with whom we could continue to grow and develop the business and mutual opportunities.

We would be very interested to speak with experienced bookkeepers who are looking to take on more hours through typically site based contracts with us. The contractor would work alongside our management accountants within existing clients.
