New Motherboard / Processor upgrade existing kit

I have an ABIT IP35 Motherboard with an Intel Quad core Q6600 2.4Ghz procossor.

SO my question to everyone is I want to upgrade the Motherbaord as it can only handle 8GB of RAM.

Is it worth just upgrading the motherboard and trying to find a motherboard that will take the Intel quad q6600 processor.

Or have things moved on so much I would be better off getting a new Motherboard and Processor ? if so - please recommend something.

The PC will be for runing various VMs for testing etc

Personally would go for a new motherboard and processor as otherwise when you want to upgrade the processor in a year or so then you will need to replace both at that point.

What to go for though really depends on your budget, did you have any ideas in mind?

After a bit of research - your absolutely right - will upgrade both.

I checked out the price of the same cpu as a quad core - and it was about £190 - out of my budget
