New £5 note not suitable for vegetarians !

It's just cretinous, if true. Super new high-tech notes (which weren't actually needed), have animal fat in them?

As a civilisation, we're getting collectively more stupid.

It is ridiculous to have animal fat in money and they should try and change it in my opinion. I do hope i don't get stuck behind someone refusing to accept a fiver in their change though, and looking at those articles and tweets It seems that could happen.

I understand vegans finding this unacceptable, but most vegetarians wear leather or wool.

It's not as if they have to eat the £5 notes.

There are animal fats in all sorts of products you would not expect.

It contains a trace of tallaw. The following paragraph is from wikipedia:

Tallow
Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, processed from suet. It is solid at room temperature. Unlike suet, tallow can be stored for extended periods without the need for refrigeration to prevent decomposition, provided it is kept in an airtight container to prevent oxidation.

Well I hope that they don't use vegetable oil. As the founding member of the Vegetable Liberation Front I would find that most offensive.

The vegans/vegetableterians want to kill off all domestic livestock. If there was no commercial value to the animal there would be no reason to farm them and they would be killed off - no more little lambs, cows and hens. They are incapable of surviving on their own so would die.

I just think their agenda is wrong.

In all honesty, who gives a flying ****

We're carnivores end of story - if someone decides that they're not going to eat meat then that's their choice... whether their is animal fat in a fiver or not I honestly couldn't give a rat's ass... I'm not eating the bloody thing, I'm spending it on my gorgeous cheeseburger with chicken donner and salami.

It would seem that some vegans need their head removing from their arse.

The BOE is now looking at alternatives. Shame, I think large organisations and central government should stop pandering to minorities.

Soon they might not have a choice as it won't just be the £5. £10 and £20 will soon contain it also. Unless they start to only deal in £50's, they're going to start accepting it.

I think it is more of a long term saving thing than anything else. These notes won't need to be replaced as much as they get circled around for years.

Give me 24 hours...

I'll lick all the fat off my fivers... and sell them to veggies for £10.00 each so that they can continue to use them

I can imagine them going to a store and asking "is this five pound note suitable for vegetarians?" like what you trying to do, eat it?

Don't try screwing over the economy, only because you nearly choked on a piece of beef which took you an hour to chew because you overcooked it, damn.

The new £5 notes contain animal fat, the Bank of England has confirmed.

Vegans and vegetarians have been left disgusted by the revelations about the note, that has been in circulation for three months.

Really? I never thought animal fat could also be used as an ingredient for making monetary bills... Wow, surprising. But I least I've learned something new...

10 years ago we were definitely a minority - today we are more empathetic and aware of the unnecessary techno-breeding of animals for food. Research it and you'll see. Anyway, in 20 years we'll be looking back at veganism, like we look back today to the 70's smoking indoors - brain damaged.

A slight side issue, but my partner received a telephone call at work at one of the big supermarkets, from a concerned customer. The customer was worried because they had heard that the company's own label fresh full fat milk was not suitable for vegetarians. Because of some additive. The customer was informed that full fat milk contains only, well, full fat milk. But is that suitable for vegetarians? It is, obviously, not suitable for vegans, but it is suitable for vegetarians. So what is added to it? It is milk. There is nothing added to it. It is milk. I need to be sure? OK here is the head office number, ring them.

Do you ever worry about the level of common sense in the population as a whole?

Cyndy,

I see what you're saying and I have to agree... the level of common sense in the population as a whole IS dropping severely...

We've just had new offices installed, which takes up some of the shop area, so we've re-jigged the shop completely... even put in a "pod" for the "KEY CUTTING AREA" and added a sign in large capital letters... KEY CUTTING

No word of a lie!!! I s**t you not... a bloke, in his mid 40's walks in and says...

"Do you cut keys?"

NO WE'VE GOT ABOUT 10000 KEY BLANKS SAT ON THE SODDING WALL, 8 DIFFERENT KEY CUTTING MACHINES AND A HUGE SIGN SAYING KEY CUTTING... BECAUSE WE DON'T CUT KEYS!!!

:D :D
