Hello to all, I hope you are well, in these crazy times!
Whilst in lockdown, I am having a go at trying to network Sage 50C Client Manager. (26.2.139.0)
I work on a laptop, and I want to give access to the data, on a desktop.
I like to tinker. I have decent knowledge of the software. At present, the laptop company data files are stored on the HDD (application is on SSD), which also syncs to One Drive. I did try to use One Drive to sync the folders onto two machines, and this worked ok most of the time, but sometimes it had errors. I think this was due to OD not always syncing, even tho it said it was up to date. So I thought maybe a wired connection would be worth having a play with. The desktop is only used by my daughter, who does a bit of posting for me over the weekend. So the laptop and desktop are generally always in the same room.
I have managed to set up a wired network connection, via an 1GB un-managed switch, between and laptop and a computer (both 1GB too). Ultimately, the laptop will hold the main data, and the desktop will communicate with it, but for now, while I am testing, I am trying to get the laptop to see the desktop data. I am assuming it actually doesn't matter, which way it goes?
I installed Sage onto the desktop, and created a test company. I added two users.
I shared the desktop Company.000 folder, and I can see, and access, this shared folder on file explorer, from the Laptop.
I set up a dummy company on the laptop, and changed the laptop company file to look to the shared folder instead.
When I try to open that company from the laptop, it is uber slow to load the company list, and I get a message when I try to open the shared company - first it says "diagnosing connection problem" then it says "It is not possible to contact the Sage 50 Accounts Service V26. To continue to use Sage Accounts, you must ensure this service is running"
Both machines have all sage services running.
What am I missing? I bet its something and nothing LOL! If anyone has any advice, I would really appreciate it.

(Yes I know paying someone is usually the best option, but that's not possible right now, and quite frankly, getting someone else to do it, without having a go, is no fun)
