MTD Software for VAT returns with TWO businesses

I have two small businesses which aren't doing that much at the moment, but I still need to file returns for them. If you have two small businesses, which MTD software are you using for VAT returns and how are you doing it? I don't want to create two accounts, pay twice for 2 software accounts etc! Because they're doing so little at the moment and transactions are very low even when they're not, I'd prefer to be directed to solutions which are free.

Hi look no further than below. It's free and simple to use and you can submit returns for several companies - the inventor should be knighted.

The name of the software is a mouthful but don't let that hold you back.

Depending who you bank with FreeAgent might be free (not sure if it'll suit your requirements)

Thanks for this tip. I'd really like to break free from my scrappy Excel spreadsheets and do everything in one place. Does this 'bridging' software only bridge, or do you use it to do everything within it?

What have you been doing until now (the deadline for MTD is history), or have you only just gone over the VAT threshold?

Are these Ltd or sole trader?

Does your existing accounts package not have an MTD option? Does it not support multiple businesses?

This is the first return that has to be with the new software.
Ltd companies.
I didn't use any existing account packages, just very annoying and simple excel spreadsheets.

Do you have a recommendation?

I use VT+ and find it easy to use but there is no longer a one-off purchase option, it's an annual license. I think you can use it free for 30 days but I doubt very much that you can do an MTD submission during the free trial ;)

Have you thought about something like Anna.money ?
I've thought about all those on the HMRC software list, where Anna is, but I'm struggling to go through each and every one of them and work out which allows for 2 businesses on one account. That's why I came here. Are you saying Anna.money meets my requirements or was this more a general suggestion to go investigate?

General suggestion.

What you’re asking for doesn’t exist. It’s like looking for a red convertible sports car, with great off roading abilities, fully electric, amphibious but has to be within the budget of 50 pence.

I appreciate the desire to save costs but you will probably find the time saving of using some good dedicated accounting software which makes submitting VAT returns to HMRC effortless is well worth paying for.

Trying to save money using free software can sometimes waste a lot of time.

If you use an accountant you may find they can pass on a discount to one of the HMRC MTD compliant software providers.

I wouldnt like to specifically recommend any software to you without knowing more about your businesses and what you need/will help but certainly one of the cheapest good MTD compliant software providers I use is Accounts Portal which is worth a look.

Well, on the contrary, it seems it does. There are several suggestions here which meet my criteria.

Perfect, can you share which product you’ve found that supports multiple legal entities with one login which is free, supports MTD VAT filing out the box and isn’t an “annoying” spreadsheet.

I’d imagine it would be super helpful to others who might have similar requirements.

The other posters here have made good suggestions. I'm sure anyone reading this thread is perfectly capable of following up these tips themselves.

You appear to have a problem with my question. I invite you to take your "Helpful Johnny" elsewhere.
