We are taking over a pet store and they don't currently have ANY branding. We are currently looking at colours (we are sick of looking at wholesalers, racking, leases, licences and cute animal photos) so we thought let's do something easy....yeah right!!! We only want one colour (costs) and this will obviously be OUR colour - what do you consider a 'good' colour for marketing purposes? We (or rather, I) don't want yellow but are open to suggestions (he obviously doesn't want pink!). Thanks

If you are planning to use a colour for your logo + other branding items, you might find this scheme helpful:

Personally, I think that orange colour could be a solution for a pet store as pets are expected to bring happiness and cheerful mood to people. It is all about the psychology of logo colours.

One colour doesn't work. You can have a primary colour but you need secondary colours for balance. Try greens and browns, they are neutral and easy for on the eye.

And there is no 'good' colour for marketing, they only way you find out what works for your is to test. test and test again. As an aside, what colour do they have above the door (the name of the shop).

Thanks for that Krystsina - can see how that works....liking orange actually- thank you.
Fisicx I want to make sure it's right from the start as I do not want to be changing the colours every week and 'trying' what might work....too much cost and energy involved. The sign at present is a sort of brown/yellow colour (my friend called it 'a sort of baby poo hue!) which will not be staying!

OK. But try Orange with Brown - they can work really well together.

This is one of my favourite tools: http://paletton.com/

And this site is great for palettes: http://www.colourlovers.com/

Don't rush in to the colours. The palette you choose has to work well in the shop, on your t-shirts, letterheads, packaging, website and advertising. Orange would just be too much on it's own on everything. But it can work very well as a highlighter colour. Google can inspire: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=o...UIBygC#tbm=isch&q=orange+and+brown+shop+front

Oooo fisicx...you've done it now - I can see myself playing with paletton for quite a couple of hours now, how brilliant is that?! Thank you - I will definitely be giving this great thought, as you say, its going to be on everything so its got to be something I can live with!

I know that everyone has his own taste, but the combination of orange and brown don't work together from my point of view. It is a too traditional combination that will cause melancholy rather than bring the feeling of happiness having a pet.

If to add one more colour to combine with orange, I would better go for a triad colour like green or violet to create a balanced contrast, or for an analogous colour like yellow green. Just check a colour wheel to see how it works before making a decision ;)
