I have just had an altercation with a magazine. They phoned yesterday and after much refusing I finally gave in to sales pressure and agreed to a small advert at 15.00 hrs and gave them my card details. They sent me a confirmation email for me to sign. Overnight I decided to not go through with it and at 09.52 emailed cancelling the advert and have not signed their form.

I have just been phoned to say I will have to pay the full wack for the advert - not the discounted rate I eventually succumbed to.

Can they charge me AT ALL?

without a signed form, which they were very quick to send to you, I suspect they have no grounds to charge your card.

Why not inform your card issuer immediately about this and ensure they don't authorise any payment?

If they collect your payment, either amount, you'll have a fight getting any of it back.

It amazes me that companies with tactics like this still abound in the UK, but if a normal regular (honest) business breaks a health & safety, or some other ridiculous rule we can have the full force of the law falling down on us!!!

Now I wouldn't be surprised if it's Aspire or the likes... They demand upfront payment and insist on a signed form within hours.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. It's the type of guys that you have to put the phone down to, I did this week, they are still ringing me after 2 years, with their same hard tactics, won't take no for an answer. Sorry for the rant, but it angers me that they tend to target small businesses.

I'm not so sure that (in B2B) not signed = no deal, maybe look into that.

I'm sure there are cooling off regs etc, best hold off for some qualified advice.

I'd certainly be turning the threats round on them.

you should have a cooling off period and right to revoke.

Cold calling and radnom hard selling is a nightmare. I'm getting two calls a day asking me to change my electricity/gas/water supplier at the moment and i'm in serviced offices

How the hell did you guess?? Take a gold star. Even had a subsequent threatening call from the "line-manager".

Phoned the bank and they've stopped that card and replacing it. I can live without it for a week.

That was 2 years ago.
They're still ringing me to this day, I just put the phone down on them, just like they do. I am a lot less ''ignorant'' these days, the joys of running a business.

It's always good to check if a company has been talked about on this forum...
