just had a call from a chap at a company called Local Linkup... Anyone know of them ?

I have to say that he was a nice chap and not pushy at all.. Just wanted to know whether i wanted help with SEO

i actually know quite a bit about the subject actually and everyone who i speak to regarding the subject say the same the directorys are low traffic and they feel scammed. now your local link up idea is terrible , you dont know anything about seo as you have clearly shown on numerous occasions. Like I said I'm no expert Massey, but I noticed your domains names are quite clever and if I type them into Google you come up on the front page, except for 'Plumbers in Birmingham West Midlands'. Do you come up because of the domain name?

I've already been through this question. Your avoidance of my question however only tells me that you're too 'proud' to admit that you could be wrong.

I'd just like to hear some unbiased opinions because I want to see the bigger picture before I decide whether or not to give this a go. I've read more about these companies on things like blagger, and now I've done a bit of research I'm a bit more reserved about it, plus £300 is a fair bit for someone who only has a mediocre job - but if it worked it would be a good move, right?

the plumbing url is pretty new and i have not really worked on it much. the key words help alot the down side is its not branding but i just want search engine visitors. I would not use it as i do my own, but im sure you will locate people that will.

Do your sites generate hits though, do you actually generate any business by being on the front page of Google??

I don't work for them. I guess I'm not going to find what I'm looking for on here because it's impossible to get a fair opinion. If I'm going to give them a go then I need an equally balanced argument, pro's and con's, I don't need a bunch of up their own arse SEO experts telling me they're the dogs doo-da's and everybody else is wrong.

As has been pointed out, you pay an upfront cost (around £350?) to LLU, if you don't get the 1st page position you don't have to pay the monthly charge............(but you've still paid the set up fee?)

Check the WHOIS database for the LLU website & the Contentys site, registration details hidden by 'contactprivacy dot com'.
Companies House details for the companies is registered to an accountants?

Search Google for the term 'iomart la1 1ab'.
The postcode is LLU's address from their site & is a former (or poss still is?) lieomart telesales office (info is the 6th result the Google page).
The 1st result (the Blagger one) seems to be a member of LLU staff admitting the iomart relationship?

I had a message from someone who said they work for Local Link Up and I asked if there was a set up fee, he said it's £300. I've not replied yet though I've not made my mind up about it.

I'm simply asking Massey if he generates any business by being on the front page of Google because if he doesn't then there's no point in me buying a product like this is there!!

Am sure everyone would agree that by being there will not secure you as a multi million ££ company, but it is certainly going to give you a push in the right direction. I have looked around alot and found some Local Link up sites/listings on the front page of Google, the problem I have with the listings is the fact you pay this unknown set up fee and from what I have found you have Local Link Up splattered all over your listing/site.

Wannabe if you are a entrepreneur why on earth would you consider advertising there name all over your sites? surely you will want to get your name out there not there's

If you want something that works and is a proven science (SEO) then approach a professional.

On the other side of things........ if indeed you do work for LLU which has been suggested earlier, it proves on thing........ You really dont understand SEO, the more this subject is covered and discussed the more content there is going to be about the situation the higher this thread/bad exposure for local link up will rank............. wouldn't be surprised if you all of a sudden stopped replying now

Faevilangel, isn't the customer always right? I'm the customer here and the way that I see it is it's more beneficial to ME to pay on a results basis only. Why in Gods name would I want to pay a company if I have no guarantee??
What I would ask is if an SEO company is 'so good that they don't need to make any promises', then why won't they offer me a similar guarantee if they're so confident??

In my opinion, those who offer money back, or free if you're not happy are trying to hide their shoddy work. LLU spam their name and cold call to get clients then give this "unbeatable offer". Even if they can't fulfil what they say they will, they already have had £300 for doing zilch. Most SEO's will work from word of mouth.

An SEO will link build to your site (without spamming) and will make amendments to your current site. They will increase your ROI and convert visitors into sales, where LLU just send get you onto the top of google by spamming links (from what I have read).

You're looking at this the wrong way, ignore the costs but look at the end goal. Lets say LLU get you £600 of business by you being on top of Mr G for one keyword, while an SEO gets you £1000 by converting current visitors into sales, and getting your site as the same keyword as LLU.

Which would you use? Getting onto the top of Google isn't just about getting links to your site, you need to convert the visitors.

LLU suck, google and UKBF members will tell you this. Use an SEO that has experience in your sector. You will pay more, but you will get a better service.

However, the way I see it, and I bet most others would too, is that if the SEO company gets me no results, I'm still paying for that service - no matter how professional that company may be, no matter how nice they make my website appear, it's all about the results at the end of the day - and if LLU don't get me any either, then I don't have to pay them anything. Now I don't mean to sound like a tight bugger, but it sounds like a good decision to me to try LLU!

I have always got results for my clients as have most of the other SEO's on the forum - because that's what we do.

Your whole argument is flawed my friend - so instead of sitting on here, why not hand over your hard earned £300 and lets all see what happens.

Flawed - OK basic English you pay them £300+ for nothing, and if they get you onto the first page you then pay a monthly fee!

I don't you have a clue, not to be rude, but come on - they take your money and only if they hit targets will you have to pay more.
