one for the newbie masses.... :)

We all see the mention of link building in the SEO threads (that's because it's important) so...
how long do you spend every week building links for your websites?

or would you rather spend time just talking/moaning about SEO? :p

I am doing it very slowly, one good way I have found is adding comments on reviews in blogs, then add a link url to whatever name you put in!

I think this works, some might disagree but it is very hard for me to get someone to add my link on a related sites.

Suppliers are good too, managed to get three of mine to add links, good thing is they are related. Well they would be as they do supply me gadgets!

I tend to go through a spirt of doing it each month... i get rather bored of it and would much rather be designing a website, hence why im rather selective over which seo clients i take on (i'm obviously way too picky). :p

If you are putting effort into this ensure the links are not automatically nofollowed. Wordpress are by default for example.

Right click on a blog link and select properties.

As with all advertising, a company should spend some time every day, week, month, year or what ever is needed. We may all hate/dislike leg work, but done right it does pay...

Hi D

Could you please explain a bit further, just so I am not wasting my time.

What do I need to be looking for in the properties window?

Go to one of your blog post comments - a site where you have posted a comment with a link in it. Right click on the link. Select Properties.

If it says something 'relation external nofollow' then although the link will send traffic - if they click it, it won't pass any link juice.

Depends what your linking strategy is.

Thanks D

So for, where I have been adding these types of links I am ok.

Excellent link building article that is too.

A tip for quickly picking up on no-follow. Download SEO Quake and click the option Line-through "nofollow" and "noindex"...it will then do just that whilst you browse.

My understanding is that TextLinkAds will pass both traffic and link juice.

Rather than starting a new thread, I have a quick question on link building techniques.

Is it best to work on link building only to your homepage or is it also good to work on internal pages (such as on product pages for me).

Internal linking is very useful, in fact probably more so than the home page, depending upon your SEO strategy.

I cannot be the only person who thinks that other businesses are really missing out when they refuse to exchange links we targeted USA, Ozzy and New Zealand companies recently to build a resources system. They would benefit more than us as we totally monopolise the search space they are working in but zilch back.

It is probably easier for me to build more pages and sites and just knock everyone else out of the search space than look for partnerships which grates. I really would partner up with other businesses and make it a proactive affair.

In general you will achieve a greater percentage of links to your homepage.

Ideally you are trying to achieve links in as 'natural' a way as possible, therefore obtaining links to internal pages as well as homepage is preferred. Also, links should have a good variety of anchor texts and as you are optimising pages for different keywords then in an ideal world the relevant keywords will point to the relevant pages.

A bonus of having keyword domains is that when people link to your site using your url (which can be a significant percentage) then the link contains a keyword.
