laws on leaflet disribution???

hi all, im after some information on the laws of leaflet distribution.
What are the laws on the following:

a) Putting leaflets through doors.

b) handing out leaflets hand-to-hand.

c) attaching leaflets to cars (such as under the wipers)

It actually could be trespass as the occupiers 'license' which people are automatically granted only applies to certain people like post men etc. This doesnt mean to say that YOU are granted license.

Although trespass isnt actually illegal it could be in any number of circumstances, just leaving a gate open could be conceivably damage to the property if a dog or cat got out, and you could be sued.

Also if the occupier doesnt want flyers through they're door it is harassment/nuisance and maybe even breach of the peace and again trouble for you if they prosecute.

It doesn't seem clear whether the land you're thinking of is genuinely owned by the council or a private landowner. Being a council officer, I'd suggest talking to the council and asking them what their position on it is, and whether it is their land or not. As mentioned, you could be trespassing, even on council land, as it's not open to the public for 'any use whatsoever', but only certain uses (e.g. parking your car!). Also depending on the council, they may decide to come after you for flyposting - the level of enforcement and what they consider acting upon varies from one council to the next, but it could be a £150 (from memory, might be £100) fixed penalty or even a prosecution/criminal conviction if you were unlucky.

My favorite flyers are the postcards ones with pre-paid return postage, just tape a house brick to it and mail it back .. They soon stop sending them

Regarding the legality of posting leaflets, I don't think there are any legal issues, local free papers will even include your flyer with their distribution for a small fee.

Thats one of the residential buildings I was trying to get into. I circled in red where you can call each block by enter the number. I wonder if its breaking the law for me to go in without any invitation for the purpose of leaflet dropping
