JustEat - Is it worth it?

I'm looking to start a gourmet burger delivery service and I am currently weighing up the pros and cons of using JustEat and would love to hear from anyone with prior/current experience with them if possible.

How much business do you actually generate from JustEat? I will be building my own website with mobile friendly ordering app including leafleting my local area and also debating signing up to their service.

I have heard a lot of mixed views about them but not how much business they send. I've heard some people pay £699+ VAT upfront and a big commission on each order. So is it really worth it?

Any help greatly appreciated

Am I the only one who finds Just Eat a bit pointless?

If I fancy a chinese that evening, I fancy a Chinese and I'm not interested in local pizza or Indian take out offerings. I also know the Chinese takeaway I like and it takes seconds to call them and place the order.

Maybe it's just me? I'm usually one who likes to have the latest apps etc, but its just never appealed and I'd rather the takeaway got the full amount than paying a percentage to a (what I perceive as) pointless middle man.

I find Just-Eat more expensive, I think most takeaways raise the JE prices to help eat some of the cost. I've found some really nice takeaways through the app that I otherwise would not have found.

I got friendly with one takeaway and after a few visits, they told me to start ordering over the phone as it's cheaper and I'd get something for free if my order hit a certain value which is something they don't offer through the app.

I guess they use JE to get customers then try to push regulars to use the phone to avoid paying commission.

Just googled "how does just eat work for restaurants" and a thread from this site showed up. I can't post it though as I've not posted more than thirty times.

On a side note, about 5 years ago an Indian I got a takeaway from had the Just Eat logo sticker on the door. Curious I asked what it was about. They explained how it worked and told me it had generated a lot more orders and was very happy, next time I ordered with them through the app. They'd been using it for a month so just imagine how many other people might have done the same...

    Most deliveries of fast food are limited to say a five mile area so a web site and local advertising is probably the best route to go

    A certain age group will play with apps and you may loose a few potential sales to them, but a larger potential group will probably use traditional routes and even more so if you attract the children just like McDonalds 50p toy works wonders or smaller burgers for kids or tiny pack of smartie''s with each kids order

    Got to agree with you. As it happens, Chinese is the only meal my wife and I have as a take-away, which we will have once or twice a month. We have a favourite Chinese restaurant in our town and they deliver within the town for free if the order is over £20.00. (Oh and it takes us even less time to dial them, as we have the number on speed dial.)

    However, I do realise there are those who have take-aways a lot and may want different types, so I guess that's the opening for the likes of Just Eat and its ilk.

    I ran into this problem with a client of mine just a couple of weeks ago. so it indicates the direction the market is going. Just eat approached his pizza delivery business and offered him a place on their site. However he didn't want to be a "small fish in a large pond". So we discussed alternatives and we came up with a complete end to end mobile app solution for iOS & Android. This will now make him a "large fish". It allows customers to place orders, Receive order updates as it progresses, allows the user to track the delivery guy when he has his order in the car, make payments and receive notifications. On the admin Side, we have provided him with a 10" touch Screen that will display the orders, When an order is placed - the system will automatically print the order using a label printer which we have provided at cost price, and it allows the admin to update the order progress using a barcode scanner and send push notifications to users devices.
    He now has a lot more features and should see alot more return on investment as he can now has an individual platform to build his brand.
    I'm currently on the look out for more like minded people and you seem to be having the same thoughts as him. The app could greatly benefit you and your business as opposed to JustEat ect.

    Or do people think an app like this may be pointless with tried and tested platforms out there already like JustEat. Thoughts & opinions appreciated please?
