Is email marketing effective?

Email marketing is effective if you can pass the strict anti-spam laws, and not get blacklisted in the process of sending the message (even if your subscribers subscribed and don't remember doing so)

YES YES and YES....but

As many other members have pointed out - it has to be done correctly.

What is "good" email marketing? Here are a few :

1. Good email data lists. You need to make sure that the recipient data on your opt-in list is clean and up to date.

2. A strong and well designed HTML template.

3. Intelligent segmentation of your subscribers behaviour and tailored triggered emails targeted at specific groups.

We've only had two email campaigns so far - one in summer, one a couple of weeks ago. The one a couple of weeks ago worked better (we have had 3 sales from the 500 we sent out to - a couple of these were high value items - we may have got more but these were the sales we could clearly link to the newsletter). I think the reasons for this were:
We cleansed our newsletter distribution list so that we only had on people who had actively subscribed to our newsletter (hence we were only sending to 500 - we are quite a new company)
We had some offers which were very relevant to the target audience - reductions on a very popular wooden toys range

We had a much better open rate and click through rate compared with the summer one.

We are using mailchimp which I really like as the reporting on it is great.

Yes it can work very well if done well and of course can achieve absolutely nothing if done poorly.

There is an art to doing it well - I have learnt the hard way before :D

Just tested a similar system in the last few days on a revenue share deal with them sending to their email contacts. Started Thurs, closed today not great but done about £6k so far so for not bad for about 2hr of my time ;)

Doing another test later in the week to 45000 on a revenue share with a different outfit

Email marketing is apparently effective and has high ROIs if you target the right customers.

Through my company's experience, we have found out that sending emails to customers immediately after they make a purchase will result in high open rates blog.anafore.com/2010/11/12/improving-email-open-rates/

Email Marketing is very effective. The stats say that once you have a customer it is far easier to get them to continue to buy rather than source new customers.

I have run online email marketing campaigns for my own products and it is very efficient providing you use the right tools.

I can give you recommendations on what software to use if you wish to learn more.

I use email marketing as not only a long term business model but its the easiest way to convert customers.

I don't know what your doing to capture leads, are you using squeeze pages? landing pages? blog?

I use squeeze pages with video to capture leads, but the magic is converting those people into paying customers...

For all of my projects i use aweber which is a service that allows you to set up an autoresponder that sends emails out for you at whatever day or time you choose after setting it up once.

It gives you your open rate, so you can do subject line tests to see what gets a better open rate, and you can see how many people clicked on the link within your email...its pretty cool.

For one of my projects i have an autoresponder sequence that lasts 2-3 months full of great content and online goodness, but within that content i have my offers also.

So when someone joins my list and they like what they see, and purchase something from either my own products or affiliate products i make a passive income no matter what I'm doing.

So all i have to do is drive targeted traffic and bingo.

Email marketing is a long-term initiative but can make you quick money depending on your niche and email sequence.

The best thing about having a growing email list is that once your subscribers learn more about you and begin to trust you more, they will buy anything you have to offer.

But always keep it ethical, im not into selling people rubbish stuff, especially if you want to keep your audience.

What are you currently doing to capture leads and build your list?

Email marketing works day in, day out for us. Timely and relevant emails with strong offers give very satisfactory ROIs.

Providing, you create and manage a well planned marketing strategy in conjunction, with a carefully written email, with clear objectives or goals and follow it up.

That's because it wasn't the first time that Aweber had been hacked. It has happened 3 times this year and they still have severe security vulnerabilities that haven't been addressed.

Google "aweber security" and see how many horror stories come up. Enough for me to think there is damn good reason why they got so much news coverage.

(and it can't be denied that Aweber has the most features)

If that is your opinion, then so be it.

However, I work in the email marketing industry. They are not the most popular system, neither here nor in the united states. Mail Chimp and Constant Contact are. They do not even make it into toptenreviews.com's list

Neither do they have the most features.

What they do have are serious security problems. It is common knowledge within the industry that no other system has had as many breaches as Aweber. IMO they are a liability.

sometimes people think that email marketing is spam. As example, a person who doesn't subscribe any newsletter or email get an unknown promotion from somebody, thus they may think that it is spam

Without singling out any particular instance, even the best lists will get marked as spam occasionally because some people can’t be bothered to use the unsubscribe links. Also some people have a … strange … definition of what spam is.

Mike, first of all I do not ask email marketers to provide me service for free. I work on revenue share model and give them 40% of the sales they generate.

Secondly, I have found some email marketing guys, but I still need more. More sales I have, better it is, right? ;)

It depends greatly on several factors:

1. Your industry
2. The receptiveness of your target audience - have they opted in to reveive the emails?
3. How relevant the email is to your target audience? Does it provide valuable content or is it overly salesy?
4. Time of day that you send your emails? You'll need to do testing on this.
5. How regularly you send emails. Find your happy medium, to little and you'll be out of mind, too often and they'll switch off.

Email marketing is obviously effective if someone does it properly. There are many online email templates available on the web which one can easily use for effective email marketing and writing specific, short but brief content in it.

You're right about online template availability but where most users fall down, apart from the copywriting, is finding the time to do it.

Doing it once is one thing. Doing it regularly is another. And unless it is done regularly it's not that effective.

E-mail marketing to current clients is much easier, as mentioned above there is a degree of trust, that will help to keep your e-mail out of the receivers deleted items.
But some of the lists and "data" provided by marketing companies are often well used and the contacts listed are often being bombarded with e-mails, with yours just being another company "spamming" them.

For one of my businesses email marketing is my most successful and cost effective method of generating sales and new business.

My tips for email marketing success

  1. Build a relationship with your emails - emails should build trust
  2. Send regularly - better to do little and often than 1 big one quarterly email
  3. Add value - I send two types of emails each month - one pure selling (events and workshops) and it's clear from the headline that is what it is and one content (newsletter) - it's about being in your prospect's inbox at the right time (both have a 35% open rate)
  4. Have an objective and call to action - it's amazing how often people forget this
  5. Get permission - don't spam people - get them to signup and want your email - if you are buying a list get them to subscribe to another by offering a cookie (bribe) - you'll get much better results from emailing people who want to receive your emails
  6. be relevant - if it is relevant and useful they will want to receive it
  7. make it look good - use html emails
  8. break it up into content chunks so it's easy to scan
  9. track your open rates and click through rates - and see what's working
  10. resend to people who don't open it (if appropriate)
  11. duplicate success

Email marketing is a long term game - it takes about 6 months to get regular and consistent results - see point 1 - build your relationship and the money will follow.

Make it all about you and your sales and your recipients will unsubscribe.

Email marketing works but it requires time and effort on your part

100% yes. No other way can you launch a new product/service and drive hordes of pre bonded, well targeted prospects to it.

Just make sure you don't spam them and DO A PRODUCT LAUNCH for maximum effect.

people have no time to read spam..... then make sure your emails do not appear as spam! make sure your title is related and sparks intrigue and also look at the IP address sending your emails, if there is a problem with your emails automatically going to spam then there is a reason for this!

Also be aware that there are trigger words that will set off spam filters eg.
Free!, 50% off! ,Click Here, Call now! ,Subscribe, You're a Winner! - do not use these!
