Hi

Should i have a squeeze page when people click on my website or not?

I use wordpress and there is a plug in that when someone clicks on my link they cant access the website unless they put their email address in, wont this increase my bounce rate? is a squeeze page off putting? :|

nowardays sqeeze pages are very off putting - if you want to collect peoples email address you could offer a free 'giveaway'

Hope this helps

I would click straight off your site. You have no need to have my email address unless i buy from you. I would fear that i would be bombarded with emails even if i decided not to buy from you.

If you sell products that are available on other websites, i fear you would just drive customers to them by asking for this.

In short: very.

You would need to provide a lot of value and re-assurance on the single page, which is hard to do if they cannot get to an about page, testimonials page, or other informational pages.

One exception would be a competition of free giveaway of some kind - even then you need to be really clear what you are planning to use the email for.

No way do you get my email until i get what i want. Otherwise you get junk mailed by everyone you didnt buy off.
I would exit and not bother with you even if i wanted to go further. It is offensive. Dont do it

Don't force people into providing - or you'll be very disappointed when you see the bounce rates.

Instead, sprinkle assorted offers of what you can give them in exchange for them providing you with their details. Multiple lead capture messages, placed strategically, is the way to build your email list (for further nurturing campaigns).

'Sign up for our newsletter' doesn't qualify as an offer of value. Give them a report, white paper, case study, survey results, access to your video vault, something...

Squeeze page or landing page should not be on your main website for starters so the answer would be no.

It should be completely separate with a domain that is relevant.

Is this what you mean or do you just mean a simple e-mail capture on your existing website which should be there anyway with some incentive to input details?

The latter means people can still read all of your website without doing so but after reading things they may then feel like they do want your 'guide' or whatever.

Your website is not that great to be honest. It looks nice enough it wont get your phone ringing.

The navigation bar should be more in the order of Home, Services, Benefits, Contact rather than the way you have it. Stick the other things in the footer.

Have a picture of your smiling mug in top left hand corner and your telephone number in massive size along the top in the right hand side.

Also make the site narrower like 780. It is too wide. And get rid of your left hand column and stick it to the right hand side and put your data capture thingummyjig there.

Lastly you want to think about niches rather than the bland everything to everyone approach. This is where landing pages can come in useful.

eg 1 Woman in her 30s with two young children at primary school who has just got divorced. What would you write to her?

eg 2 Married couple in their 70s and their only child has died. What would you write to them?

I suspect it would be different yes? You need to 'talk' directly to that person and if you do it right they will read what you have written and take the action you prompt them to.

This book is American but buy it anyway. It is not about squeeze pages. It is called Cashvertising and will set you back maybe £10 or so. It will change how you do things from now on and you will get more clients, getting a great service at a great price which will mean more money for you ultimately.
