Introduction and advce sort

Hi,

As a relative “newbie” to this forum I would like to extend my gratitude to all contributors who have helped me decide to take the plunge and launch a new business venture. Utilising my many years in senior sales and marketing management I will be offering my experience and skills to start-up and SME organisations in a consultative role, offing advice and leadership on all aspects relating to good, effective sales and marketing techniques. I will also be utilising my abilities within the UK/European Franchise industry to offer a specialist recruitment service aimed at this market.

My first question is should I keep both these concerns under one umbrella or to form two separate companies?

Secondly I need the services of a good web design organisation that can assist me in developing a hard hitting, effective and sensibly priced web site.

Welcome to the forums I am sure you will find contributing to them a rewarding and positive experience.

As well as finding good resources for your own startup I hope you can find the time to help others by giving opinions in your area of expertise.

Having been part of a few(4-5) startup businesses some at the same time I would say don't bite off more than you can chew in one go. Better to do one thing very well than 2 things half as well. Unless you can do both services to a high standard without flogging yourself to death.

I found 15 to 20 hour working days not uncommon in the first 2 years of the startups - just putting the hours in to get them going, build the customer base and get the order book built up. Actually thinking about it 15 to 20 hour (albeit enjoyable) working days are still fairly common.

Part of the decision making process should probably also involve an accountant (which I'm not)

Lastly I have a 'personal-interest' question or 2 back, (which you could also maybe cover in the phone call) ... What made you decide to work with franchises and what sort of experience have you had with launching franchises?

Hi Kemble, good for you - getting up the spirit to take the plunge, it's a difficult call with lots of variables to consider.

The long days that Matrixx talks of, I still experience myself - and still enjoy fully!

As the others have said already, welcome to the forums!

Firstly, I would keep the two under one umbrella because their "perceived" sector is not too far apart, but as Rob says don't take too much on in the early days. Plan ahead because although doing lots of things now may seem the right thing to do to bring in immediate money further down the line you may wish you had focused on one thing and it becomes harder to drop the other stuff.
