Hi everyone,

I have few suits for small kids wanting to sell them how do I go about doing it, I heard OS commerce sites are free and ebay.

Can anyone assist me as to how to do it.

Thanks

Daniel

Are you planning to sell these suits as a business or is it just a few to get rid of? If so I would go down the ebay route as you can attain buyers much easier and it will be a lot quicker for you.

I'm planning to sell them and get more business out of it. I have them for use actually. I can also use them as samples if people want to buy in bulk.

Hi Daniel,

If you are looking to pick up an osCommerce shop from eBay, just check that their sample shop is quick to load and its available 24 hours a day, some of the osCommerce resellers on eBay use their own computers to host the shops and have to turn their computer off when they are sent to bed by their parents!

On the plus side, there are some excellent osCommerce resellers in this community who can customise and host your shop to a professional level.

If you want to evaluate other hosted Internet shop solutions, feel free to PM me about our own service, or check out some of the members posts on http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=37965.

Regards,
Dave

Oscommerce if free but not easy unless you know what you are doing. Our site is OsCommerce, my partner was tearing his hair out in the early days trying to get things right.

I went through Ebay India and found that I can register for a online shop and pay a monthly subscription. Do you think it will do good and is it worth paying the premium subs as they say they will offer marketing and upload more pics and so on. It costs 25 pound a month.

Wondering if its a good route.

Can you give me some feed back.

Thanks

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

We've set a fair few OScommerce sites up for people, and although the setting up of them can be a bit complex if you've never done anything like it before, it is mostly automated, and there is a great support forum you can consult to ask if you get stuck..

In terms of running it, its fairly straight forward, but again the advice and help is out there if you need it.

If you do need any further advice, feel free to PM me or catch me on dave (at) highqualitytechnology (dot) co (dot) uk

Regards

Dave

But don't forget that installing OScommerce is one thing, but customising it is another thing all together.

I would strongly advise against using any of the default templates...

Good luck with your site.

I strongly recommend that you avoid the DIY oscommerce route unless you know a lot about PHP/MySQL or can pay someone who does.

The default osCommerce installation needs a hell of a lot of code changes to turn it into something professional. osCommerce has contributions which can be installed, but contributions/add-ons are in most cases code changes, programmer instructions showing what code needs to be changed where, they are not installation programs that end-users install themselves with one click. The same goes for osCommerce templates, since osCommerce templates are basically the default osCommerce installation with only some visuals changed. Even if you do get to the stage where you have a professional osCommerce site, by then it will be a legacy system and time to rip the innards out and migrate to v3 (v3 is currently in alpha), which will be another major programmer task since by then your system will be unique with its myriad of contributions and code changes.

If you want to get started for 'free' and test the water, I would recommend just selling your products on eBay (eBay isn't really free due to the insertion fee and the final value selling fee, but at least there is no upfront web setup cost, and you have the footfall - the existing ebay visitors to sell to).
