Shakthi, Getting to the first page on Google is like asking how long a piece of string is! It depends on numerous factors and cannot be estimated accurately.

There is no guarantee you will ever get page 1 either.

As a rough estimate - think 6 months - 1 year, not weeks if your keywords are "online travel planning". (dependent on keywords)

Good luck.

It is twice as long as it is from the middle to the end :O)

Shakthi, If you have no SEO knowledge/skill then the answer to your question for "Competitve Keywords" if it is in the travel Industry" is never...you have more chance of sh!tting Strawberries

You will need to employ someone, think Fisicx offer is better, Weblinkplus's offer is a little expensive.

It really depends on how many blog comments you make. Every 100 blog comments will move you one ring up the ladder. It's also a good idea to set up an account with every forum in the world and add a link to your profile. The more the better it will be for your ranking. You can also use an auto submitter to article directories. 500 submissions will increase your ranking by about 10 places. Use article spinning as well, 100 spun articles will give you a real boost. And don't forget to use the google site submission tool. Re-submit every hour so google knows your site is important.

Can't beat weblinks offer though.

With regards the strawberry suggestion. There is this website.....

But good value for money :p

Gotta have time for coffee breaks, reading news, watching Olympics and playing with slot cars amongst other things...:D

Online travel is competitive, but less so since Penguin IMHO. A committed amateur could learn how to rank a site even in a competitive niche, but most people want the quick fix and won't be prepared to commit the time...

I dont think a person who has to run a business aswell as get their "Holiday" keyword to page one of google would have enough time in the day..Is there a quick easy fix to get "Holidays" "Insurace" etc etc to page 1 of google?...I do think your budget is not far off though )

@Graham
Are you aloud to keep resubmitting your site to google, i thought this was frowned upon??

@WebLinkPlus......Slot Cars...Boy you are showing your age

I was taking the mick. Don't submit your site to google - it's a complete waste of time. And don't do any of the other things in my post either.

Ignoring the giggles and humour above, the answer is strictly based around:
1) Just how competitive the phrase is
2) How much SEO budget you have
3) How good is the SEO team you hire

With those 3 facts supplied, you can probably get a decent estimate.

Spend 1000+ per month on a good team and you should be there for moderately competitive terms in 6-12 months, unless it's CRAZY competitive. If you want page 1 for iPhone, sex, love or any of the good ones.... you'll need to multiply the spend and time....

Then there is the 'honeymoon' period to consider.

New websites often appear in favourable positions only to drop back into oblivion a few days/weeks later.

Getting to number 1 and staying at number 1 on Google takes effort and investment.

By that I mean, creating original worthwhile content and constantly adding / improving / updating.

Its not easy, but then if it was, everyone would be doing it

Best of luck

Bobby

When it comes to SEO, you need time. SEO can take a month or it can take 6 - 12, depending on time (and therefore money) put into it.

SEO generally breaks down into onsite and offsite.

Onsite SEO
Primarilly, onsite SEO is used to factor your web site’s content, code and speed for search engines. As a standard, all work we produce has optimised content and our web hosting allows for lightening fast loading times for your web pages.

To name a few, aspects of your web page code such as your title tags, meta descriptions, header tags such as h1, h2 and h3 as well as alt tags for images and internal links are very important for onsite SEO.

Offsite SEO
While onsite SEO deals with your local on page optimisation, offsite SEO is where efforts are made to gain high quality links, optimised for your key words and phrases, to your website. To gain a healthy and usually high position in popular search engines such as Google, quality back links are essential.

There are no shortcuts with SEO, you need to make sure your website is coded properly, you need to make sure that all of the content on your website is original and keyword rich and you need backlinks from other websites. The process will probably take 2-3 years for a competitive keyword and thats if you put significant effort into the process.

It depends on the keyword. Longtails are usually easier, but a good competitive keyword can take years or thousands of pounds. If you've got a brand new domain with 0 age and PR, then you'd be looking at around 3-6 months for some long tails and a "long time" for high competitive.

Someone on they answered the question as true as it can possibly be.
IF you have the finances you can hit page one within months for very very competitive terms.
It all depends on your ROI.
Take "compensation claims" - if i told you to pay £3000 a month to gain and maintain page one what would you say? Yes or NO

when you consider 40-50 RT claims sign up to "a company" on there every month and each claim is worth £750 referral, spending £3000 is absolutely nothing.

There are only 10 places on page 1 up for grabs, so spend as much as you want on SEO but if the 10 others are doing their SEO slightly better than you then you will never get there.

The easy way is Adwords.

I don't know how any of you can quote timescales regardless of how much money is invested, ultimately the decision is in the hands of Google and no individual or company can accurately predict any kind of timescales.

I do if the money is right, and if you have enough experience you can predict the timescale. If you have been in SEO as long as I have you will learn that it is all about resources. the more resources you have the easier page one is.
Resources cost money. The more money clients pay the quicker you can utilise those resources.
Be under no illusion that Google takes it time 4 weeks turnaround on events is how most clever SEO's will work. 12 week to gain page one is not asking for much if the client is willing to pay.
Like many good SEO's we dont do cheap prices because we know the work involved. We are however cost effective.

EG. I quote £2000 you quote £500, you get him to page one in 12 months, I get him there in 4
Using me cost him £8,000 using you cost him £6,000, so you saved £2000.
Now you may be sat there thinking Why should you use me (or other SEO's who quote like me). Its simple. TIME is the most expensive commodity out there. Once it is used up it is gone and there is no way of getting it back.

With my SEO you will still have 8 months of extra time on page one of Google.
This time allows for reputation to be built and word of mouth to be generated. 8 months of "zero" business is a long time.

Next time you spend on SEO think, you cannot accumulate if you dont speculate.

Well obviously not, but when we sell a product we supply exactly what we specify, as a product is a tangible item this is quite straightforward, SEO is not so straightforward, I haven't seen anything to suggest that it can be consistently and accurately estimated, and if somebody thinks they can do that, then we would be happy to pay them a good rate once they have delivered. So if there any SEO's out there willing to put their money where their mouth is please let me know.

First analyze the keywords and their competition of the keywords & the competitors and work for quality relevant link building techniques like social bookmarking, directories and forums. Link building is a continuous on-going process, so built high quality backlinks to rank high in google.
