How much to plaster?

Im not looking for quotes, ive just had my bathroom plastered by someone i know.

Hes done it for what i think is far too cheap - even at mates rates.
Bathroom is maybe 2 metres wide by 4 meters long and then the height is just normal height. Hes only done 3 walls and 1 of those had a window in it.... i know this is becoming very vague.

Hes spent maybe 8 hours here (some on saturday and then a couple this morning) and used 2 1/2 bags of plaster and 1/2 bag of browing (i picked up the plaster/browning for him).

Im just after rough ideas as to how much that would be. I was kind of expecting maybe £150-200, but it was quite a bit less than that.

Just wondering if i need to buy him a crate of beer for xmas.

Yes 2 crates.Judging by the amount of hours he spent.

I would expect to pay £15-£25 an hour for a good plasterer (depending on area) so for 8 hours would expect to pay between £120 - £200.

Cheers for the replies. I didnt have a clue what their hourly rate was but i thought it was more than £10-11 an hour.

jobbers would charge per sq mtr, 2.5 bags +25 sq mtrs.

2 crates = 3 on offer at morrisons

I was recently quoted £90 from someone on my builder, about the same size, maybe bit smaller. Based in Manchester.

Mates rates works both ways, so give or take £50.

Last year I had a 10 x 10 ceiling boarded and plastered for £100. Having plastered a number of walls myself and done some patching on ceiling I would have been happy to give him double that.

For the plastering you have had done you'd be looking at about 80 pounds realistically as it is half a days work there really.

If it took 8 hours to skim one room he is incredibly slow. And as you say one of the walls had a big window.

He just didnt stiff you for his slowness in my opinion.

If he had done a good 8 hour plastering then you could be looking between 100 and 150 for most plasterers.

So you know how much preperation he had to do or damage repair.?

I had a room replastered 40 ft x 13ft just the walls £450.

another that just needed a light skim 22ft x 12ft= 100 quid.

Happy with both.

I'm presuming the prep was already done. That he had to fill a few holes with browning and go onto skim.

I am sure the op would have gone into detail if the plasterer had had to prepare excessively.

If all the guy did was fill a few holes with browning and skim the quantity he did then i don't know many plasterers that would charge more than 80 pounds.

we had a garage conversion ( 18' x 8' ) done 4 walls with 2 windows and the ceiling. Took 2 blokes to plaster the whole lot straight onto bare board about 7 hrs and cost us about £300 inc materials which I was happy to pay....

The room was done, i had to mess about taking a radiator off whilst he was here but that was 30 mins or so.
He also had to work arond a toilet and bath - the sink hadnt been fitted so other thant that the room was ready to go.

sounds like i was charged about right then.

£30 sqm was the last estimate I got. For a totally new room, just built with all the plasterboards in place, I thought it was kind of OTT. Room was 17 sqm of ceiling with 36 sqm of walls. At £1500 or so I thought it was a nonsense price.

Thats an unusual strategy putting prices on your site,
do you not find it difficult to give fair quotes after customers have seen the rates or do you honour the rates and win on some and loose on others?

its a guide price (As stated ), I find this eaiser to deal with people who just want a ideas of costs ,it saves me time ,dealing with the time wasters/dreamers on the net,

If your intrested in the guide price ,I will then, come out of my house ,spend my time and money on deisel, to give you a free quotation
otherwise dont bother , I have travelled the midland too many times , dealing with time wasters and the people of numpty world.
who have little or nothing else to do other than pick there nose and waste tradesmans time

Yup gotta agree I think its an excellent idea for trades people to have guide prices on their sites.

In fact I would say that almost any site that does not have some sort of guide prices for their services is losing out.

I would personally rather qualify them on the phone as i think it can lead a potential customer to think they are being scammed when you give them the true price.
but thats just my opinion and if it works for you fair enough

This is why the trade is on its ar5e. 'Skimmers' undercutting real tradesmen.
