Mmmmm,
My business would and will cope while I'm away on holiday in April, my drivers are all capable of looking after my clients.
My business would survive if I left, but only if a new owner had the same high standards me and my chauffeurs pride ourselves on, and what our clients expect.

1 man band business's like mine do not die with change, and may actually flourish with new ideas and a fresh approach to improving business. I believe improvement can be made in any service or job or business.

Haha, thats certainly an over simplified way to look at it.

If the website ranks for "london chauffeur" "chauffeurs" and so on, it will be bringing in a lot of highly targeted leads and would be worth significantly more than £2000...

But it opened up a good thread and certainly made me realise a few things.

I talked today to a colleague who almost purchased another chauffeur company. I asked him how HE valued that company. I was surprised to know his answer, and it matched what a previous post said.
Business is only worth what someone will pay for it. He valued the web site, email address and phone No at approx £15,000.
No signed contract work was available with the chauffeur company, and only goodwill work came with it.
He also said he valued his own chauffeur company as practically worthless and less than he actually paid for it himself.
WHY?
No assets except web site, email and phone No. No buildings, No parts, no signed contracts, no cars.
But his business makes him and his chauffeurs a very good living, and you cant put a realistic price on that.

Unfortunately from what he has told us I wouldn't pay more, lets face it your still going to invest atleast another £50K to get it up and running...and while your doing that all those customer will go elsewhere

So the new owner would have to become a chauffeur? Therefore your business is not running itself - your business needs somebody the same as you to be working full time. Nobody want to buy a job.

If your business continued to grow without you, and you had in place say a "head chauffeur" who kept up the standards of the business and made sure everything ran smoothly then maybe you would have a business, and one that somebody might buy. But even then it could not rely on just one man, it would have to be at a stage in which everyone in the company had a place, and everyone in the company could be replaced with somebody else without the business falling apart.
