How many hours per week or per day on average do you use the internet? Either for work or personal use.

Pretty much 24/7. My phones, computers and iPads are hooked up 24/7 and I'm pretty much doing something that requires an Internet connection at most points throughout a day.

So two replies and two people who pretty much live in the internet. Me too!

Do you not see this as a problem?

Almost everyone with a broadband connection will use the Internet for 168 hours per week. I think you need to refine your definition of "use" to exclude merely "being connected".

I thought was obvious but if not I mean 'actively use', not just be connected to.

I don't see it as a problem - it's better than passively watching TV.

Do you actively use the internet every hour you're awake and not see it as a problem?

I tend to be on the internet for around 25% of my average day. More if I'm busy with work. Less if I'm on a break from it.

When I last went on holiday, I didn't go on the internet for a week. I had been banned from doing so. Felt strange, ten years ago, that will have seemed ridiculous.

If I'm on the computer then I'm on the internet - either emails, web stuff, searching, reading and forum bits and bobs. You can easily lose 6 hours without even realising it, and an average of 8 would be a fair answer for myself.

I'd rather do something constructive than mess around so things like Facebook and Twitter don't rank highly with me. It's a great way to learn new things and develop your skills and expertise :)

Most of my day seems to be taken up by it! I'm trying to reduce how much I use it though, last night our internet connection went down and it felt very strange not having an internet connection - almost as if I didn't have anything to do! What I find even stranger is that about 14 hours of my day is taken up by something that hardly existed 10/15 years ago!

I know what you mean - it's almost like we have been consumed by our own technology and it's like having a power cut - you suddenly think what do I do now? It's rather sad when you think about it, and I'm sure that we all probably could do with some therapy and counselling in one way or another... :D

90% of our work is done via the internet whether it be quotes, orders, enquiries or financials.

We all run AIM too and more and more business is done there with follow up and paperwork via email.

So there's 11 hours per day at work plus what I do at the weekend and of course wasting my time on here :-)

Let me clarify: my phone is always online. While I am working (has to be offline, they've not figured out how to put a sewing machine online yet) I am not online, but if the phone tells me I have an email, I stop and check it.
I would say most of the time in the evening is spent online, actively. Apart from eating dinner, or if I'm out or seeing friends.

Does "actively use" mean going shopping while your p2p client downloads a huge file while you are out?

Or do you mean, maybe "physically interacting with a device connected to and communicating with 'tinterweb"?

Arrrgh sorry mate.

I slip into company mode sometimes. I apologise.

Substitute I for we and it's good. I've had a little too much to drink tonight because one of my best and closest staff (and a really good mate) died suddenly the other day so I'm not really on the button.

:(:(

I am constantly on Facebook, Forums and now Twitter. 50% of my day is on the internet and even if I'm at home my Ipad is too handy. I was just thinking about this yesterday, asking myself do I really need to be on Twitter also, is Twitter not just for people who want to follow celebrities after all that's what my sister does?

We wonder why young people have no social skills and such a very narrow experience of life itself?

Well, it's t'internet particularly Facebook (who are laughing all the way to every bank) from cradle to grave with Twitter and Text to fill any gaps. Everyone busy messaging about each other and telling each other what they are going to do in life rather than actually leading one

...and it's all sooooooo important.

We are trying to utilise social networking to help start our business. The downside it that you have to constantly check phone, pc, laptop pretty much every hour of the day. That's on top of trying to do the normal 8-10 hours a day in front of the p.c

just about every moment i am awake 7 days a week - my business demands it! even when i'm asleep i have my blackberry hooked up to all my business email accounts and if a serious problem arises at any time of the night i will get up and sort it out.
god i sound so sad - but in doing this i have started a business from scratch 11 months ago and am going from strength to strength.

t'internet is essential to many businesses so i am sure alot of people will agree they spend majority of their day on it.

For Shirtmasters? So what work are you doing every moment you're awake?

You do have a serious problem with your website by the way. Those new product images on the home page are massive (one I seen +5Mb) and it means the home page takes ages to load and nearly crashed my browser.
