How GREEN is a recyle wheelie bin?

They seem to use a lot of plastic and surely are quite un-eco friendly to make?

What's the lifecycle in terms of how long they need to be sitting outside your door before they become 'productive'?

It very much depends which company you buy them from as to how 'green' they are and the more green ones tend not to be as sturdy.

It generally takes between 8 & 12 weeks before they become productive but this very depends on education of the users.

Here is a great tip for anyone that has had to start using recyling bins - empty plastic bottles take up a lot of space, so stand on them and put the top back on while you are standing on it. You will fit 3 times as many in the bin and is good for back flexibility

lol... I've thought the same as you!

I have -

1) Black Bin - Normal Rubbish
2) Green Bin - Recycling Stuff, Plastic, Paper, and Metal (No Glass!)
3) Brown Bin - Garden Waste
4) Blue Bin - Kitchen Food Waste (Leftovers / tea bags etc) You actually get two Small Blue bins, one ever so slightly larger than the other... Bit silly tbh.

Now the council is on about Compost Bins - no joke.

We have

Green bin = rubbish
Brown bin = garden waste, cardboard... recyclable
Small green thing = glass, cans...
Paper bag = paper

You can have an extra brown bin (which most people don't need) for free
You can't have an extra green bin (which most people do need)

However, the coding chart/system shows on a red day it is a green bin day and on a green day it is a brown bin day, confused the hell out of everyone. I can only assume that who every signed that one off was colour blind.

As a result of this stunning "green" policy being introduced everyone now drives to the tip on a weekly basis in order to get rid of the normal household waste. Thereby using using sheds loads of fuel and producing... yada yada you know the score all this to satisfy the ******* at the E.U.

When do we get a referendum? I want out!!!

Oops I misunderstood the OP :redface:

I am a saddo - I love recylcing but I hate that I have to fill my car up and drag it all the 7 miles to the recycling place.

We have:

small black bin for paper & card
small black bin for household waste

Doh

It has to be said though that we had no trouble managing once we take out the plastic, metals, paper and glass. I think it is just getting in the habit of washing tins etc and of course we have huge barns to keep the stuff in. Not sure how people manage in a small terraced house.

I just take mine along to me Line Dancing classes.

Now I know why we never saw Plastic bottles in any of those old Nazi films.
