How do you get quality back links?

and even then it still wont give the information you need that spyglass gives you to sort out the good from the bad.

and what info is that - oh how bouts - number of links on a deep links page, yeah - so you are knows sharing with 100 other lunatics who also want the free ride...

and that's if this Spyglass can read all the blogs, and link pages that have disallowed bots, and if this true, then spyglass cant read the web page anywhays - so it imposible to get this amazing info for all the freeloaders to uise in their spam games huh

But you still use up loads of time using auto tool - cos you need to write emails and begging letters with the crap pitch about how much yous love their site and it a good match for link swap to that 10k a year naff trader site. Oh what such a great and fair swap that will be up against a 300k traffic monster - yeah, thatll works for sure.

and even then it still wont give the information you need

u mean like whether a link is a good match - childs play! - I's can find that out just by visiting the damn site lol. and why wuld anyones wants to bother counting up the links each site has b4 linking to it - is this some kind of webmaster contest to see who has the next crapiest blog link lol. - cos I thought links were bouts quality - and thes traffic that comes from thos links lol.

You crack on with your spreadsheet if that works for you mate then stick with it.
I would rather get real time data from over 296 search engines plus spyglass has it's own database of links which currently when I checked a minute ago said :-
642,081,014,394 unique URLs crawled
897,704,758,673 external links in index
Over 15 billion links added daily
--------------------------
This data and the resource information is second only to Google, and gives a lot more than Google does. But that is ok though you dont need any of that information etc as you have your spreadsheet.

ps - it's not about sending begging letters for links (that is so 2010) - but hey if that works for you - thats great.

There are other tools out there , I just use spyglass, as it gives a definitive plan to follow based on real time factual up to data data. AHREFs is good as is Majestic SEO

Haven't done it for a while, but back when I was doing lots of SEO this tactic worked well:

1) Find some sites which you'd like to link to you.
2) Crawl their site using a tool like www.brokenlinkcheck.com
3) Find the broken URLs on their site
4) Send them a helpful email pointing out the broken link and either ask them to link to you, or offer to create a piece of content for them on a similar topic, as a replacement for the broken link

I've tried this approach and it works from time to time, but recently I try a slightly different approach for step 4). The main difference is that I don't beg for any links at all. I just try to build a relationship with person. This way, I believe the chances are much higher to be offered a link. Because let's be honest webmasters are sick of seeing emails like this and when they read the first two words they know that 99.9% of the time the email will finish with a link request.

Another decent approach is using HARO ( help-a-reporter-out). It's a really powerful way to acquire high-quality and relevant links. You won't get links easy, but as it was mentioned earlier in the thread there are no easy-to-acquire good links. You've got to invest some time and efforts (often and money) to succeed.

296 search engines

I has doubts bout that - as theres very expensive to set up and maintain - so that why.

Don't know whos been feeding you with all these bs stats, but probly Spyglass thoughs who want to do exactly what forum members doing to gian new business. you knows there are hotel sites all claiming 200k plus of hotels in the world - there cant be for number of reasons one being not enough land plots to hous them all lol - my god the lies told on the web is criminal.

You crack on with your spreadsheet if that works for you mate then stick with it

To add you didnt read my post correctly either, its even in print - which makes it even sadder. I said:

wasre of time as all need is a excel database

Didn't say I needed to - others obvious need to use silly Seo tools thoughs - so unless spyglass got an email system to aid the spam sends, it wont do you no good coss armed with your golden data, yous now gotta still contact all the spam sites to target. Think bout all those thousands of deep link pages of 100, 150 even 300 links per page u will ssoon be joinin them, never to be found. See as the crap ones get deleted by webmaster site owners - (the links most people chase) - that billion spyglass database obvious hasn't deleted its results list in years by looks of it - So - the billion results you mentioned is old data that don't apply no more lol. So you gonna manual filter spygalssess database are yas?? so u still gotta go through some untrustworthy junk filled list of links - what a billion of em? lol.

you can crack on with your Spyglass wasting time, while I get my usual 5k of free links per year. Cos if you truly knew what u weres doing, you could have thousands of links for free like I do - shame youll never see that in 100 years the ways you and others are getting it so wrong - just like the rest of the poor sods of the web.

Probably why your precious spuglass billion link link swaps which are actually spam, is so popular. Unfortunates that spam links will never last as one by one they get deleted by the sites that matter. Oops. It takes less time to delete than to post - come on u should knows this... even with autos spamming tools mate..

Just had another mention on a highly targeted blog - its so easy when you knows how.

see wots greats bout my links is they aint link swaps, sos we dont go about annoying sites owners - our links are true one ways on decent run blogs/sites - sos no begging, no spammings, just quality.

See as the crap ones get deleted - (the links most chase) - that billion spyglass database obvious hasn't deleted its results list - So - the billion results you mentioned is old data that don't apply no more lol. So you gonna manual filter spygalssess database are yas?? so u still gotta go through some untrustworthy junk filled list of links - what a billion of em? Good luck.

That is link spam - not link building. Journalists are busy people and wont help out spammers. U can bet that HAROs system has junk filters in place to stop spam, so waste of time thinking the minimum free links gained are of use. PR sender services isn't real PR - its mostly spammed linki fodder, they make a lot of money from it, theys really do - but it just spam really.

U want real PR? Ring up a newspaper.... and ask for the news desk

I am sorry, but It seems like you're not very familiar with the concept as a whole. It is a mutual-beneficial service and it has nothing to do with spam. You are actually helping journalists with some real value and if they decide to feature your information means that you've helped them with their project. So, I really can't think of any reasonable explanation what this has to do with pure spam. I personally know a lot of marketers who rely on HARO for almost 100% of their linkbuilding campaigns and they are doing pretty well :)

Funny - cos you just agreed with me below:

There you go - you know tons of marketers that used HARO to spam. Doing pretty well - yeah, like youd know for sure. Whats - just cos they maintained a slightly better spot cos of a link or 2 from some Journo? So you can prove their turnover or traffic?? If u can prove I dunno wat I talk about - then I hold hand s up and listen to anything u gotta says - that fair nough?

You first then I will prove what I mknows....

Every thread about link building this Hospitality King comes on and starts belittling people but I'm yet to see any evidence that he knows what he's talking about. I'd concentrate more on my poor grasp of the English language before coming on a forum where people are supposed to be friendly to each other.

Not that I use it, but how is HARO spam when it's actually journalists who ask you to answer questions for them.

All I do is link build, and I am constantly gaining links on high authority domains, and have never paid for a link in my life. The people who say "write good content" aren't helping anyone as it's such an old cliche. What is good content? Look out for the people who are dominating your niche and use Ahrefs (or another link tool) to see what their most popular content is, and base something on that.

If you don't want to pay for links, you have to think about what will make people want to link to you for free. There are a couple of things, one is by creating something about them that they might want to share.

Example - you're a London restaurant. Put together a list of 25 Amazing London food bloggers. Send out a message to all the bloggers who have been named with a free drink voucher. At the end, use the post and mention to the blogger to feel free to link back to the post if they want to. Use a variety of popular ones and more obscure, and I guarantee that will be 10 relevant links from bloggers with wide followings. All for the price of around 2 days and 25 drinks. Bloggers are more than happy to write about any kind of awards they win.

Obviously it's different in different niches, but if you really want to be great at the old building links, you need to know what people like linking to and what kind of thing does well with readers.

Haro gets tons of spam, by idiots who wells - just spam. That my point.

Send out a message to all the bloggers who have been named with a free drink voucher.

Ah - so yous favour bribery -- yup says it all lol . So the links aren't free one-ways - votes where others genuine like a site, na. you suggest bribery to the masses lol. and you claim you an expert suggesting that lol.

If you don't want to pay for links, you have to think about what will make people want to link to you for free. There are a couple of things, one is by creating something about them that they might want to share.

Ahjhh - but they don't have nothing to offer, as sole traders own crap low level sites. May get a few link swaps I guyess - but no more than that, I means - no one will link to em in the 30ks worth, and this talk about Seo and link huilding and doing it proper is just all lies, bs and anger cos they cant do it. They need to look at their limitations and just stop using forums as a sounding board for sales - it fools no one.

Unfortunately unless you're a national newspaper or a really well established brand you have to think outside of the box to get links. What are you suggesting? That you should just sit there and do nothing. A website with no links will not get any organic traffic. Please, instead of being so negative about link building methods, tell us what yours are? You're clearly an expert in the subject as you seem to know absolutely everything there is to know.

Bribery? I'm starting to think you've actually lost the plot. For one, bribery is a crime, and for 2, my methods don't ask them straight up to link - I just make a suggestion that they might likle to share with their followers. Calling me a criminal for the hard work I do is just pure insulting.

I do agree with you that HARO isn't really the route to go down. Tried it a few years ago but didn't like it. The reason I stopped was because people were asking questions and then creating content from the answers without citations.

Sole traders do their jobs - but I don't work with them. It's a piece of piss to rank a site locally without any content marketing at all. I focus more on companies with bigger budgets.

Not bribery - must have a criminal intent attached to it - sos if I want to gain advantage for some wrong doing (a tort), then says I offer a enducement, you accept it, then it becomes a crime. But not for business it isn't, not for a link gain as theirs no illegal intent.

But there is an enducement to gain advantage at playd here, and point is the result - the link - wont be a vote as was obtained by a reward, not by effort, not by talent and not by someone opinion that a site is worthy of linking to. If you see what am getting at - links of such nature must be earnt, and are never free.

Calling me a criminal for the hard work I do is just pure insulting.

So when you purposely are paid by a client to build links as a contract, whereby yous find sites with open forms and spam details to them without permission - then not pay them for their services - you tyhink that a reasonable thing to do? I call it theft by deception myself - theft of others webspace. Webspace that don't belong to them, yet they take it to personally gain advantage for revenue purposes - its deception.

Searc Angel - you 30 years old right - I expected more from someone of that age. I'm 47 - I got 17 years of knowledge on you mate - that is a huge difference in knowledge.

hard work I do is just pure insulting.

Come on - everyone knows what RoboForm is, but I don't doubt some work is involved - just not what you claim is. You Seo guys love trying to convince world that its some kind of science and you need a degre to do it

I never said anyone with a website should sit and do nothing. Ok - I stick a post together later on - ill have to try and remember what I did over the years - started when was 33... I'll have to make some notes on it and backtrack it all with searches.

Jesus, you are 47? Your comprehension skills are like that of a 12 year old.

I'm not having you insult me like that. No talent? I don't work hard? Do you think I just email random people and ask for a link? This is an idea of the process that goes into a content marketing campaign:

1. Idea brainstorming. Spend some time speaking to potential customers, looking other campaigns in the niche and how well they've done. Study blogs and comments in the niche to see what kind of thing people are interested. See what's been done and what hasn't.

2. Content creation. Pay out of my own pocket for something linkworthy to be created. Write all the content myself and make sure it's perfectly optimised so people will want to link to it. A lot of the time this also involves finding expert opinion.

3. Outreach. Scope out a number of sites that are the most likely to link. Find journalists who have written in the national news about similar things. Figure out how to put this content in front of them without them ignoring it as just another piece of spam, mostly by using a different method of contact with each one.

It sounds easy, but when I'm doing the same thing twice a week, I have to work hard in order to achieve the results I get. Not to mention other things like following about 100 industries for news, reading industry updates and reporting. I can guarantee that there are not many in the business who can do the things I do, yet I come on here to try and help others achieve results. You do nothing but write garbage and annoy people.

You might have "17 years of knowledge on me", but what does that mean? Scientists who were 17 years older than Albert Einstein had 17 years of knowledge on them but you it doesn't mean a thing if there's no talent there. Just the way you speak and condescend people gives me an indication that you haven't spent those 17 years you've got on me very well.

Plus if you take all the knowledge on Google that was available before I started in the industry in 2010 and applied it today. it would be useless. We're on an even footing pal so don't start with the "I'm older, I know better" stuff. You have to earn your respect in any industry and I don't see any reason to give you any.

In these days one of the better ways to get quality backlinks is to do guest posting on related blogs. When you do guest posting here are couple of things that you should always keep in mind.

1. only post on quality well established blogs that have been working for at least a year.
2. always use unique and original content.

Guest posting on well established blogs is one of the things you can do, but I would advise peolpe not to only do this.

Rumour has it, you're being held hostage by the Triads in Macau

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will certainly be checking out SpyGlass in the morning.

There is a helpful video and free download here , the free version works great as it is - but is a little limited. If you use I would suggest you need to use some proxies as well (these are easilly setup within SpyGlass)

Can you expand on why i should use proxies?

I found a website that shows all my current back links, and it turns out i have a bunch on Pinterest. Can i assume these are no follow, low quality/worthless links? I did notice that the page these links are directing to ranks highest when searching my business name.

In my humble opinion, it really depends what the website for optimization at hand is, both technical and semantical wise, and of course the niche. It's not about merely gathering links, although there are certain less competitive niches, where that still works. The thing is there are a gazillion tricks you could do, in order to acquire links, so imho it all comes down to what you have at hand.

Slightly off topic perhaps but what happens if you have website A, website B and website C. You then put a link back to website A on every page of websites B and C. So that you have a tonne of links (from 2 domains) all pointed to website A.

The reason I ask is I'm seeing a few of my competitors ranking really high by dong this (after inspection of their backlink profiles). They don't seem to have many useful links from anywhere else to justify their position. Do SEO's use this tactic? Instuitively it seems like something Google should be penalising.

I should mention websites B and C in these scenarios are "sister" sites of website A

Requesting backlinks is a waste of time.

You have to give people a real reason to link to you.

Which in reality means way beyond excellent content. But then you also have to tell people that content exists. And even then ....

Not really, depends on a few factors.

If it's relevant, contributes to their page, and you're asking in the right way, you'll probably get the link.

Tip: Call them :-)

I think he means just emailing and asking for a link to your business, which is right, but even if you write amazing content, you don't get many links without asking for it.

If you want to get more backlinks on your site use reliable and valuable content on your website and don't do keyword spamming it's really worthless.

Steve Alphabets post should point you in the right direction. If you want to speed thinks up however you can get an SEO tool for checking backlinks. Check the backlinks of your competition, and see if they have a comment area. If they do you can post your link in the comment box but do not spam as this will generate negative SEO.

As others have said here, the suppliers (i.e. the people you pay money to) are the best, most motivated source of links in my experience.

Getting backlinks are essential if you want to rank for anything nowadays and the competition can be very fierce. However, people still do make it big in various new niches. But honestly, unless you have tons of time to do this yourself you need to outsource this work as it's too time-consuming for a business owner to undertake without the correct tools. Plus you would be taking your eye of the ball so to speak and end up neglecting your core business, its easy to get side tracked.

Whichever way forward you go, it's going to your cost time or money or both. Your time is not free and building links manually will drive you insane. So outsourcing your SEO backlinking is the way forward for that, but how much are you willing to pay?

You could buy dedicated software that does it for you. In my own company I now use software called webfire to gather backlinks for my clients, and it does it very well and quickly. Either way there is a cost involved and that also applies to the Agency undertaking work on your behalf, so when you are asked to cough up a decent fee for good SEO and backlinking services, think how much time it actually takes do it and perform the task.

PM me for any questions

I hope you don't outsource it for clients. In my opinion SEO agencies are pretty much useless when it comes to link building apart from the really expensive ones. You want to have guest posts and article directories all your life? Use a cheap agency.

Putting my money where my mouth is - I will challenge any agency folk on here to see who knows their stuff.

Producing high-quality content for niche related blogs, that people will want to publish for free.
Producing high-quality content that people will link naturally as a reference.
Producing high-quality content to post on your website.
High-quality content is the king IMO :) Plus you can even get Wikipedia links if you produce content that's top level. But that's easier said than actually doing it.
Expired tumblr blogs, blog comments, forum links.. these are what everyone and their mother are doing for SEO.

I have been acquiring quality backlinks for myself and all my clients using the Guestographic Method by Brian Dean. Have you guys seen it? It's awesome. Recently managed to secure approx 50 white hat backlinks :)

What is the challenge btw?

Quality back links need high authority sites, quality content, best images that suit your content, most important your "Content Title" as well as it contains some description. After making a link you must need to put it on social media sites and bookmark you article.
Also try new and creative things which help you to learn more and best for you; making a quality back link.

1. You can use Press Relaese
2. You can get some quality backlinks by using high PA-DA social bookmarking and social networking sites.
3. For longer results article marketing is one of the best and most effective ways to get quality backlinks to your website.
4. Blog commenting is another great way to build quality backlinks to your website.
5. Another great way you can get a lot of quality backlinks using the web 2.0 websites.

Well, blog comments and articles DO WORK, but you have to bare in mind the relevancy factor and overall quality of the page and content.

Links are like men. Some can be good, while others are rotten. All it takes is common sense and a hell lot of time.

Well, blog comments and articles DO WORK,
Or rather: Well, blog comments and articles CAN WORK.

But the time and effort needed often far outweighs the benefits. I can post an article on my own site and get it ranked and pulling in traffic in a few hours. No need to go elsewhere. And the link benefits of guest blogging are getting less and less (mainly because everyone is doing it and it annoys Google).

The sort of people who post here often don't want to put in the effort needed to promote their websites, they just want a quick fix and consider posting a few $5 guest posts on random site will suffice.

The best ways for creating backlinks to your sites are
Content Marketing- You can share your content by Articles or Guest Posting on relevant websites. Do proper use anchor text, do not spam the content by using so many anchor text just for getting backlinks.
You can also get the quality backlinks from the Social Bookmarking and Social Networking sites. Social Networking sites have higher page rank so you can get the quality backlinks from that websites.
Blog Commenting is also the best to create backlinks but doesn't spam someone's blog just create the back-links. Try to post the valuable comments and also post the comment on the niche blog.

Social bookmarking and blog commenting are NOT recommended techniques for link building. These have been targeted by Google anti-spam detection years ago and remain risky / ineffective to this day.
