..a blog comment can be both a great source of traffic and a good link as well.
99% of blog comments links are no follow. Of the remaining 1%, most of these are spammed to death. The few that have value are highly prized and heavily moderated. Which means the chances of your comment surviving are slim.

@fisicx, you're absolutely right, no doubt about it! But since the topic was about "quality links" and the white hat way of the Force, we should not look into all the darkness out there :)

My point is that even no-follwed a blog comment can be a quality link and for the sake of truth I wanted to make you all admit it! :D I've seen blog comments bring traffic in, not to mention being at topical page/domain = win win. So it all comes down to common sense I guess.

A nofollow blog comment is a referral marketing technique. It's designed to gain the attention of others so they leave the site and come over to your promoted property, usually because your insights are so entertaining or informative.

A dofollow blog comment is a link building technique. It's designed to manipulate search engine rankings by passing authority.

They seem similar but have nothing to do with one another. Admittedly, some dofollow sites can be for both purposes, but again, those days are long gone.

Instead.... It's extremely rare for sites to keep comments open, allow links and not nofollow them. It's rare for people to click those links, since so many malware distributors use blog comments and social media spam.

Spend your time building incredible content and guest posting (along with posting on your own site other unique content) instead of trying to find high PR blogs niche relevant blogs with dofollow linking, allowing comments, which have heavy use by people in the commenting of other posts.

Inefficient. Risky.

I would only recommend it in extremely small doses if handled by a very experienced SEO practitioner.

A small business owner likely will not have sufficient tools and know-how to assess the risks vs the benefits, find the best opportunities and will therefore waste time and be exposed to significant risks.

The conclusion is Blog Commenting is not good at all nowadays. Am I right?
It's great if you want to share your experience, ask a question, get help or say thank you. That's the whole reason for blog comments.

You cant - you'll never get em for free. Mainly cos the simple fact that such website are owned by people who charge for links.

You must buy the space from them.

Don't want to? that's fine, then eventually you get know traffic, sites will dies and it will all be over. People still think the web is a free for all spam fest omg lol.

Sorry, but I wholeheartedly disagreee I can think of hundreds of sources where anyone can get highly quality (and most importantly relevant) backlinks without paying a penny. It's all about spotting opportunities. SEO is as much about strategy as it is about spending money.

Then why don't you share them, so those with less knowledge can benefit?

7 Ways To Get Quality Backlinks
1. Article Marketing
2. Social Networking Site Profile
3. Press Release
4. Link Exchange
5. Document Sharing Sites
6. Guest Blogging
7. Commenting
there are 7 important points to get Quality Backlinks

In fact there are dozens of ways, not 7, so let me just add my 2p with #8, infographics. In your list, #3 and #6 are solid methods. But what is important is how you do it or who does it for you. Quality work is what matters a lot in SEO, as well as real experience of it.

I am searching to get quality back links. I am loosing continuously ranking due to less back links.
In this competitive SEO world, you can never really stop your backlinking efforts, or your rankings will ultimately drop, a slow and sure thing, in most cases. Unless you are a real authority site of course, but such site owners would not be reading this thread, as links come naturally to them by the boat load.
So if you want some presence in the organic results, it is a good idea to include SEO and backlinking in your marketing budget.
And there are many ways to get backlinks, it is mostly a question of how much time or budget you have.

No you aren't. If your ranking is falling it's because Google prefers your competitors. And may even be because your backlinks are so bad.

We run a support network for bloggers with almost 20k members and work with hundreds of them every month for our clients. We produce great content and can easily source backlinks as have everything we need in a massive database filterable by all sorts of criteria. We've spent years building the relationships and carrying out the outreach and we're now very well placed for performing link strategies that work, and work well.

All comes at a cost though. The only way you will get links for free is by producing a piece of excellent content in a very particular niche/topic that is literally not covered anywhere else on the web. Ever. And even then, you need a pretty powerful immediate social network to gain any traction.

We've had some successful link building campaigns and would like to offer you some ideas based on what we've found to be successful.

Creating content - this can be challenging depending on which industry you are in. If you are a digital marketing agency, creating a nice infographic about link building will be bound to get you links, but as a small finance broker, creating an infographic isn't going to get the same amount of traction. We found that by contacting relevant sites who had posted similar content in the past and asked if they would like to include our infographic on their site. We found this worked quite well. In some cases we even wrote the content for them to include alongside the infographic. This takes a lot of time and effort however link building is not easy!

Another way is to source journalist requests/enquires via a platform such as Response Source or Gorkana, or even looking through twitter using hashtags such as #journorequest to contribute towards an article that someone is writing (provided it is relevant!) Quite often a link will be included back to your website and even better if it is from a site that has good domain authority.

Hope this is useful :)

Content is king, and if you write good content then people are naturally going to link back to you. Creating infographics is another good example to encourage others to share it and source the link. Take time to search for valuable websites to which offer guest blogging, but make sure it is relevant to your industry. Don't worry if it doesn't happen overnight, it takes time to build up good quality links.

Not any more they don't (unless it's a really newsworthy and valuable data)

Nope, infographics were the source of so much spam they are almost worthless.

As some on this thread have said, link building is hard work.

I'd like to offer 2 methods which are not always mentioned.

1.

Do some research using Google Trends and/or AdWords keyword planner such as data on how many people search in the whole country for phrases that are local to the business. Publish results on your website news / blog page. Send press release to local newspaper with a link back to the site where they can read the results in full.

2.

Google 'Matthew Woodward how to get experts to write free content'. Follow the step by step instructions. It will take you around 10 hours in total to outreach and put the content together. As with LB, you can't guarantee to get a link at the end of it but you should have some social shares, some new contacts and an attractive blog post on your website.

Ah backlinks - that mythical beast. Backlinks have 2 uses. One - the content you write will be searched for people that happen to stumble upon it - ie nothing to do with Google.
Second - getting a link from a quality site, that has contextual text all around it etc etc. This boosts your rankings(it is one of many factors that affect rankings though).

For option 1 - I use Buzzbundle - it searches out and identifies where any conversation is taking place about my niche - then allows me to respond to it. BUT - I can respond as anyone , ie me or Joe Public - this is free PR - as long as you have something useful and meaningful to respond to someones query - ie what is the best paint for kitchens etc.

Got Option 2 - I use SEO Powersuite SpyGlass tool. It uses its own massive back link store - more up to date than Google in most cases. It shows me the best places to 'try' and get links from, the link value, how many backlinks on the page, Alexa rank, penalty risk if a dodgy domain, and loads more. I then try and get a link from those pages. It does allow you to concentrate on the most valueable links - rather than crappy ones - which you would never know - with spyglass to do the work for you.

Just my 2p worth - but it works for me and my niche
