Is it me or is there now 2 of them taking up possibly 80% of the screen and then, once you get down here to post, you've got that frikking irritating vodaphone ad flashing away in your eyes.

I know I haven't paid to be here but, come on, these ads just put me right off of joining anyway.

A real PITA. On Firefox Adblock plus seems to get rid of most of it.
Good example of really bad adverising: both Easy Jet and UKBF/Sift will suffer because of it, not a lot, just a bit. The long tail of negative marketing.
All the flashing ads are making the place look like a whore's convention, really lessening user experience. (Probably adding to load time too, another minus.)

Why is my screen filled with poxy easy jet popup intrusive, annoying and generally manky adverts?

It was bad enough when the stupid cycling energy bloke dropped down from the top of the screen but these easy jet adverts are really annoying. They almost fill my screen from the top and the right.

Yet again Sift are putting their pockets in front of the user experience. We all had a gripe about the ad above the quick reply, Sift at the time said, we'll get shot of it, it's still there...

The Easyjet advert is the biggest pile of steaming dog cack (sorry Dawg ;)) that I have ever seen. Bad enough it auto-expands, worse that it's so bloody huge but the killer punch is the frequency...

Absolute shocker not that it will make a blind bit of difference...

It's made me revert back from Chrome to Firefox with Adblocker.

Note to Sift - this means that I don't see any adverts at all, not just the pop-ups.

Over the years, I've made it a point to not moan about the ads. I know Sift paid a lot of money for the forum and I understand they need to monetise it.

However... there comes a point where making money in the short term reduces the long term income of the forum by harming goodwill.

And, I think this popup ad is an example of that.

    Good point(s), well made.

I don't mind what I would call 'relatively unobtrusive' advertising (even as a paid up member) - its when things start moving around, flipping up in front of text and so forth - they really start to wind me up!

Like others I don't mind the adverts but it's the intrusion into the main content that is winding people up. It's this sort of activity that makes people look for adblockers which means sift will lose out. Before these sort of ads there was the popup. Because they became such a pain in the bum everyone used a popup blocker. Now that we have a 'rich media experience' (macromedia's words not mine) everyone is reaching for the flash zapper.

Conclusion: the more that adverts intrude the less effecive they become as people find ways to block their appearance.

My actions today are a perfect example.

I have not bothered about ads for 2yrs Plus. But the easyjet ad has now made me install adblocker. So it didn't really acheive the desired purpose.

(ps I do use easyjet, but book easyjet because i need to fly somewhere rather than because an advert pops out and fills my windown when I'm asking a question on a forum - I just don't understand the logic here :|)

MI have not bothered about ads for 2yrs Plus.

Me, neither. I think Sift have every right to place ads on the forum and I respect that.

(if you get involved with businesses - and, as users of this forum, we're customers of Sift's - you've got to expect them to sell you something at some point)

But the easyjet ad has now made me install adblocker. So it didn't really acheive the desired purpose.

    I haven't done that - yet.

However, if ads like these became commonplace, I would. And, that'd be to the detriment of the other advertisers on the forum.

Does anyone else like that really cool Easyjet viral? An hour or so of intrusive popups and there are three threads about them, "easyjet uk business" is front page Google, and the squelch of twisted knickers can be heard at 30,000 feet.

    Fine job, well done.

Another site I visit began with intrusive ads that filled the whole page until you clicked them closed - until a huge thread developed on their forum with members very agitated about the whole thing. The ads soon disappeared.

It's fine to have ads to help pay for the upkeep of the site but when they intrude on your forum experience then that is out of order. Stick to normal ads and everyone will be happy.

I'm with boxby - I have never bought something after seeing an advert on a website/forum. If I want something I Google it.
