I've read a lot of Shauns work before and he does a good job of testing things at the extreme to find indicators of ranking.

Shaun knows what he's doing with markup, as do the majority of folk who read his blog. It worries me when people on here read posts testing the number of characters a search engine will read in alt text, without appreciating how to implement them in a real life situation.

Take care when adjusting the way you use these tags.

No need to elaborate, the meta description test he did is pretty clear. It pretty much confirms what I've been saying on this forum for years. That doesn't mean it's not useful though.

i thought it was common knowledge the meta description has no ranking value but is your stage to sell your website to searchers
