Hi
Well my background. I left school and didnt know what to do so decided to do engineering as this is what my Dad did when he was alive. I actually wanted to be a motor mechanic but that course was full. I did engineering for one year then moved onto the motor mechanics course. It was impossible to get a part time job in a garage at the time so decided to leave this course and attend a YTS style course. College one day a week and work the rest with Sunday off. That was the theory but the wages were so bad I often did private work on Sundays just to feed myself.
After passing all the exams and putting up with a manager from hell I handed in my notice and started work for a helicopter charter company. The reason for starting this job was to learn how to fix helicopters when I could but work as ground crew the rest of the time. I think I picked up a spanner once on twice in the time I was there. This was just over a year I think.
I had started to have enough of being promised one thing and receiving another. As most people I knew at the time who were successful and making good amounts of money I decided to get an office job. Im a guy but accepted a job as a secretary for a sales firm. To be honest I didnt want to do it at all. Being a secretary was an embarrassment really. Sorry dont mean to be sexist but its how I felt. After being there for about eight months I was promoted to a sales person. I put up with what I thought was a bad time to be able to get the benefits. The good thing was that people called us to place orders for equipment. Still after another year or so I decided that it was time to move on.
A friend worked for an advertising agency. She managed to get me an interview and I was give the job. Two years later I was offered a billing job. I accepted as it was a good step up the financial ladder internally. I probably should have stayed another year and moved but I didnt. another two years passed and I was offered an internal move to another position. This time account managers assistant. This was the worst decision of my life in some respects. My manager was and still is a bitch. Admins if you need to edit that for legal reasons fair enough but she knows I dont like her and I dont think she will be sending me a Christmas card. Luckily she moved to another job internally. My new manager was and still is very helpful. We are now very good friends. If it was not for him I dont know where I would be now. Just before he started was a very low point in my life. I worked with him for another eight months or there abouts and was once again offered another internal job. The damage with the job I was doing had been done and was not repairable so I decided to move jobs.
I know work in credit control. Its a bit more involved than that but as Im still there dont want to say to much. Other than Im still being promised the world and receiving nothing. Thats why its time or has been for a while to live the dream and start and run a successful business or a couple of business.
I have run a couple of small things in the past although I would not exactly call them a business worth doing. Although they did for the time make me some nice money.
Im currently messing around with some online ideas.
Hope to learn a lot from here and to help others as well,
James
