Hi, I hope that anyone on this forum can out of the kindness of their heart take time out to help with some issues i am having.

I sell ladies night wear and was struggling to know how to describe the benefits of the items.
I am ok with its features but not benefits.

For example I am selling a ladies long plain satin dressing gown. which has a fastening belt and side pockets. I am stumped as to how to describe the benefits of an item like this.

also having problems with same issue when describing satin chemise.

can anyone advise?

Let the soft, luxurious caress of this satin dressing gown be your evening treat. Featuring handy side pockets for those essential little things and a simple belt for total comfort, every day can be a pamper day!

£5 please! :)

A feature, such as a belt is easy to identify, the benefit is WHAT it means to your end user, ie will hold the item securely, avoid wardrobe malfunctions etc. LED headlights might be a feature for someone else, the benefit is extended bulb life, clearer light, better visibility etc.

Sit down and decide what the features actually do for the customer, that is the most important part of the sizzle.

Thanks so much for the advice. Much appreciated.

"Featuring handy side pockets for those essential little things and a simple belt for total comfort,"

These are features or possibly advantages, not benefits!

Benefit of a slinky dressing gown would be something like... cool enough to wear in the summer, hot enough to warm up the bedroom!

Similar to the above

A feature is I simple statement of fact. 'This dress has side pockets

An advantage is why that feature is of particular interest - simplistically 'which means that' this dress has side pockets, which means that you can keep your lipstick handy (certainly a crap example I neither buy nor sell dresses)

A benefit, in its pure form, is how that feature meets a specific need of your client - difficult if you don't know them, but with good targeting you can create some reliable assumptions, so if you are targeting ball-goers this dress has side pockets which means you keep your lipstick close to you which every ball- goer needs (see above re crap example)

Thanks for differentiating between advantages and benefits. I will have to do some research on this.

Thanks for your effort. I like how you mentioned to write benefits for specific target customers. That is something I will keep in mind.

Hey there,

I believe that in your case of the products you sell, you should talk about how a woman will feel if she chooses one of your night wear. For example, if you are talking about the benefits of a long satin dressing gown (belt and side pockets are not something extraordinary or innovative nowadays, so I don't think you should highlight it), you may highlight the feeling the woman will get if she dresses it, something like:

Show your tenderness to your loved one with this satin dressing gown. Its gentle texture will make you feel so cozy and airy that you will keep this feeling all day long.

Probably it isn't the best example, but I just wanted to show that it's important to say how a woman will feel if she gets your product.

Hope it helped!

Thank you so much. It was really helpful. I like how u mentioned about how it makes a women feel, from that perspective. I will take this into consideration.

To be honest, if I were buying a similar item I wouldn't be bothered by a fancy description. Providing there is a picture, the only information I would expect listed is the material. What actually convinces me to buy are reviews - people confirming that it's good quality, that sizes run accurately and that there are no huge differences from the picture.
Good luck with your business :)

Interesting points. That's is how we describe our items. Just with features but the experts are saying to focus on benefits. Even though I have seen a few occasions where they are incorrect or changed their stance.
