Salt & Paper

Hello people,

This was posted in the private section of UKBF, but I wanted to get more responses, so am re-posting here :)

Our logo needs refreshing, in fact the whole colour scheme does... We will be ripping out all the graphics, colours, menu system, etc, redoing the lot but maintaining a similar layout.

I have asked a design firm to start looking at redesigning our logo and colour scheme (so there would be a new masthead and colour scheme too). They have given me a few concepts to be developed, as shown below. I will not reveal which are my favourites, but would like some feedback from posters here?

A bit about our business:

We sell personalised greeting cards, both to individuals, and for B2B (e.g. corporate greetings). However, the website itself is mainly aimed at individuals.

All our cards are all design- lead and designed by independent designers who normally license exclusively to us. We try and really focus on quality designs, and stay away from brand tie-ins like Disney, etc.

The logo would go at the top of the website, but would also be as part of a re-brand- same layout but totally overhauled colour scheme - i.e. a new masthead behind the logo and so on (and a move away from green)

The logos would also appear on the back of all the products we sell and be used on all our social media outlets.

Would appreciate all and any feedback. (and yes I have the designer's permission to post this)

Thanks

I really like 1 but as others have said the squiggles need toning down so you can read it properly.

I'd probably say number 5, but it does need the "&" to be a bit clearer. Most of the others need a very close look to read what the words actually say.

I've always thought that less is more when it comes to logos. The name of the company should stand out above everything else.

err.1 toned down as per other replies, 5 and 8 (sorry).
Don't forget to consider how it will look on a website, business card etc..it may even need to look good in greyscale too.

5 or 6, keep it simple. too many squiggles detract from the message...you are Salt & Paper..not squiggles and balloons :D

Took me 3 minutes to realise it wasn't salt and pepper haha... silly me.

2, 7, 8 and 10 are the only ones suitable in my eyes to be placed on cards; taking this judgement on similarities to what is already out there in the shops. Of course you can be brave and choose whatever by personal preference.

For me its either 2 or 4. The red heart in #2 has to go through or be changed slightly (perhaps make it white) I don't think it quite works. #4 might work well if you use those colours contained within your brand throughout your website, letterheads etc.

If I had to pick one it would be #2 with modifications.

Definitely 8 for me. Numbers 1-3 are nice- but the squiggles cover the lettering too much

I actually think they are all really nice. If it was me I would probably opt for 5 as I think it would be quite versatile and I wouldn't get sick of it easily.

Agree with comments about the squiggles but I kind of like some sort of flowing graphic message as I get the connection with writing a note in a card.

I would also consider who you mainly sell to ( or who makes the buying decisions) if it is mostly female then 5 and 6 are very male to my eye so you would need to soften them up for me.

Hi,

Thanks very much for all the input so far everyone!

LynnH, yes good points and something we have considered, we have more female than male customers, so designing with our typical customer in mind is something we are doing; this was in the brief given to the designer.

We are developing 1/2/3 and 5 & 8 further. These are only initial mockups and everything is subject to change :)

Welcome any more input.

Thanks!

Sam

This thread only goes to prove that everyone is different. Everyone has a different take on it. It doesn't mean to say their right or wrong but just different. Quite interesting.

There are quite a few nice designs there, but they are just way too hard to read, leading me to 5 as my choice :)
