Help..plumbers required

I am starting a plumbing agency. I have the jobs coming in to me. If you know anyone who is a plumber..Qualified!, get them on this forum. We will assess them and require to vet them, check certificates etc and seek refs from jobs done.

The agency will price and provide jobs for the plumber. Plumbers must be prepared to be videod, etc as we want intergrity. Good corporate clientelle , insurance jobs etc.

Also let me know your thoughts

Good luck finding them. When our boiler broke, it took us ages to find a plumber who was qualified and then we had to wait 6 weeks for a new boiler because they were so busy. That was for a domestic plumber, commercial plumbers are even harder to find that are affordable. We rang one for the shop and they wanted to charge £80 just to come out and look, then £40 per hour for labour plus parts (would have cost about £2,000 for a boiler in). Told them where to get off 8 months it took for the shop boiler fixed, we had to carry water from the bakery, until we found a plumber who was ok. I'm not telling who he is, because plumbers around here are like gold and your not pinching him

This is a nice idea I had thought about a similiar thing myself but I don't know enough about the industry.

The problem with these sort of agencies (I won't mention names) is that a lot of them tend to have policies of ripping of customers but it sounds like you agency would be based on honesty and customer trust.

Perhaps you could have a policy where the plumber must give the replaced part to the customer. This stops the usual your PCB has blown on your boiler trick.

Great - in principle. But it won't take long until they have 'reserves' in the van!! :lol: :lol:

Yeah thats true, if a plumber showed be a PCB he replaced I would not have a clue if it was off my boiler.

I am just not sure how vidoeing them would work in practise unless you ask the BBC Rogue Traders programme to spy on the plumbers

You have no doubt just alienated 100% of the honest gas engineers / plumbers with that statemet. I know I wouldn't entertain me or any of my lads being filmed working even if it is for the punters piece of mind.

Are you qualified to pass judgement on what a good engineer is?

It's usually the questionable scruffy plumbers in dirty jeans and rusty vans that go for this type of work. The decent ones are already busy for the next 3 months and wont get involved with middle men. Hence the issues they have on these 'house of horror' type programmes.

Just my take on it.

I'm a 'self-taught' plumber with 32 years experience, and became Water Supply (Water Fittings Regulations) 1999 and BPEC (British Plumbing Employers Council) approved in 2001.

I'm also an (32 years) experienced general handyman, with competency in most other disciplines.

Although based in the Merseyside area, I'm sure your agency can extend Nationwide.

I spotted the 2005 date as well, Maxine, but since my husband owns a plumbing business (among others) I took a look out of curiosity.

As previous posters have commented, the good plumbers are all booked up weeks, if not months, in advance, and new jobs invariably come though clients' recommendation without the need for advertising or agency services.

Hello, I am about to sign up for an 8 week intensive plumbing course which would have me qualified by around November this year. The home study part starts immediately and the practical start's on the 8th September. I would be really interested in getting work from November onwards. I hope this helps.

See thats the problem with the business.......8 week intensive course what the HELL are you going to learn on that? It will take you another 3 years site experience to get an IDEA of plumbing. People are money grabbing off people who are silly enough to do these 'courses'.

Want advice.......go onto site first, get a feel for plumbing and the life it leads then do your course knowing you love and have a passion for it.

Good luck Adam with your intensive course, everyone has to start somewhere and I hope that if you get chance to get some work experience that you take that up before you start on your own especially for handling customers as I reckon that bit is more difficult than a lot of the technical stuff on the domestic side

why are people still going on fast track plumbing courses and still living in a dream that there is a shortage of plumbers??????????? plumbers are like rats there are more of us that there are cars on the road!!! and as for fast track courses>>> GO ON ONE IF YOU WANT TO BE SHAFTED!!!!!
i wouldnt even look at a bloke(or las) that called himself a plumber after taking one of these courses... being on site or working in a cliants house is soooooo totally different to the crap they teach on these courses its like taking an english degree and becoming a maths teacher... take your time get some experiance and take a propper course NVQ plumbing level2 and 3 then you can go on to sit your ACS(corgi)

You can actually take the ACS after doing a level 2 6129. Back to HGV1 for me. More money and its less hassle.
