Hi there,

Have just set up my forth venture and you would have thought PPC and SEO might be easier - its not.

Its an online dating site. Have a look and let me know your thoughts.

PS: The blog is new - and will have some business content for the website in also - thoughts on that would be appreciated also.

If your plan for this is to promote it via PPC or SEO, how much competitor research have you done?

Do you know, for example, how much a click would cost via PPC and, therefore, what percentage of visitors need to sign up to the site for you to breakeven?

I have a few dating sites with organic rankings in top 10 but it's nothing unless your in the top 3 really. I still need to do PPC & viral marketing on them but the PPC bill looks like it would be a big one to get it going well and quickly. If not, I'll let them sit for a year or two..

Hi all,

Well actually it's a numbers game isnt it. The more traffic you get to the site the more people you convert - plain and simple.

Some clicks on PPC at £7...so I wont be going for those ones.

Maybe there is a service that can help?

Or some other cool ideas?

We've got other marketing going on - but getting people to the site is key.

We've just launched a blog and people seem very interested in that so far.

I am on my fourth venture too, first I had a hotel marketing company.. it was a success but sales started decreasing due to advertising costs, I am glad I had that experience but could not operate that forever.

Then I started a leisure news website.. still exists but its mainly a hobby not a venture

Then using the contacts I gained I started a PR agency.. and realised.. that was a lot of hassle & I didnt have the time.

The venture Im on now is the most complex, requires a lot more funding, in fact.. its a REAL business if you like & it can go far, I have for the first time had to develop real policies.

I really appreciate what I had learned through the little companies I owned and now I need to take my new little start up into a big start up, which is working so far.

My advice is to stick with one thing now, if you like your dating site, stick with it, but its the little, previous ventures that will help you, due to the experiences you have gained.

And by the way, Im not trying to plug my business, but seeing as I have mentioned it (and maybe your thinking, well what exactly is this company) then if you are in the leisure industry, you can PM me and I can send you a free info pack via email.

Ive worked on a few dating websites, its a really competitive market, there is certainly no quick fix for this sector.

There are so many dating websites out there its really really tough, the best way is to offer something different I launched a dating site for Larger Dates which does very well but the client already had a huge database of people who were already interested.

Both PPC and SEO would be a must in my experience if you are to do anything with the website.

Wow, you have not picked an easy market to crack - the comptition is immense, look at the likes of easydate PLC they own a hell of a lot of niche sites and spend in the region of £1m per month on marketing.

There are other areas also but depends on your budget - affiliate marketing is a must in this arena but I would natrually assume that at this point i.e. traffic/conversions etc it would be very difficult to get a decent network to accept you (but dont worry that can be worked on!)

Display is also another area that has seen an extreme amount of interest recently due to some new innovations i.e. retargeting and also the accuracy of a lot of the tracking methods.

I would say that the SEO and PPC are going to be the most realistic areas to target and by utilising a good agency there should be no need to be paying 7 quid for clicks when just as good traffic can be generated spending 70p it is just about the research and expertise.

SEO is where you will really see your ROI kick in to full swing the difficulty is the competition but a good agency should generate good results fairly quickly.

Again it is all about the budget you plan on spending!

PM me if you want us to take a look at it and recommend some areas and costs
