Have adwords changed?

I haven't used adwords for a while and started a new account for a new business. It led me through a process to set up the first advert but this was nothing like what I have done before where I could have campaigns and make specific ads for specific keywords.

Am I on the wrong page or has there been a major over haul.

I used to be able to select my own keywords and use things like exact match and so on. Then I would write the ad to that key word. It just doesn't seem to let you now.

You're in basic - "Let Google Screw Me" mode.

I don't use a regular Adwords interface, but I think you need to choose "All Features" when you set up your campaign to unlock the secret settings that Google would rather you didn't find.

Thanks. After your post I rummaged around a bit more!

The 'express' does not seem to connect with the proper interface but I have stopped that ad now and am in the 'proper' interface.

Its all a bit odd. But no doubt I would be screwed with the express mode!

Google are sneaky. Once upon a time you chose your locations to target an that was it. Now they default to "find people in, or searching about..." knowing it allows the click fraud "search networks" in israel or turkey or brazil licence to burn your budget whenever they like.

Take your pick:

There will be another advertiser along any minute.

Advertising Spend is often controlled by agencies who don't care about the returns. ( or are on a % of spend deal! )

People don't keep a track of their own returns and don't realise.

80% of google search traffic is complete garbage. They've got to give it to someone.

It pushes up the CPC for the others who do administer their accounts well.
