Grabbing an expiring domain

There's a domain that I really want, and I've noticed that it was due for renewal by the owner on 5th August 2010. The status is

Renewal required.
*** This registration has been SUSPENDED. ***

I assume that means they haven't bothered to renew?

If so does anyone know:

a) what the timescales are for a .co.uk before it's back on the market?
b) of a good company that can grab it for me as soon as it becomes available?

Thanks.

The old owner is contacted after the domain expires and is given a 30 day period in which to renew.
If they choose not to renew, the url goes back into the public domain.

There are several sites like justdropped.com that will show you a few days before a domain is available

So theoretically the domain should already be available then...?

i recently was i the exact same boat as you.

i used dropcatcher and it took around 75 days to secure it. if you do go for it, the first sign you are successful is if you use whois lookup and type in the domain name, the address details should be yours, even whilst it says "domain suspended/ under registration" .

Nominet do go to quite a bit of trouble to ensure the current owner does not want it. I also think they release in batches - why not give them a call?

In my experience, it is worth using a large and established service (dropcatcher?) and best to use a couple if you really want the domain. It is down to the luck of the draw as to whether you will be successful.

    Good luck!

hmmm, something weird going on here...

I tried dropcatcher.co.uk which forwards me to detagged.co.uk

But I also found uk3.com while googling dropcatcher, and their page says "DropCatcher.co.uk is the detagged domains site run by UK3.com"

Both have very similar looking sites but different company names and contact details.

So it looks like one or both of them may be affiliates, or just using the same dropcatcher software?

Anyone know who the 'official' dropcatcher people are...?

I don't want to end up registering with a 'sub-site' that may have less chance of catching it than the main site if there is one...?
