Google's 'Mobilegeddon' is here... Apparently.

When Google looks at mobile friendliness, is it a black and white thing, ie it is or it isn't mobile friendly?

Or can one site be more mobile friendly than another and Google may give better mobile ranking to the one which is more mobile friendly. Hope that makes sense?
Thanks,
James

Mobile algorithm has not done any significant damage , we have analyzed over 15 different niches. I think Google has sent early warnings to webmasters. Impact might be applicable after some grace time.

Looking at a few of my clients sites mobile traffic seems closer to 30%, and that is including several journalists.

Anyway, I personally find the best seo strategy for most of my clients tends to be to write good copy and good content. Most of the sites I've made over the past 3 years though have tended to be responsive and semantic anyway though.

Google webmaster tools has a "pagespeed insights" tool with a seperate breakdown for mobile and for desktop, even giving a ranking.

My mobile traffic is about 20%. I haven't seen any impact at all, even though apparently I have 500-600 un-mobile friendly indexed pages. Although my site is responsive I use Disqus as a plugin, and Google test tool found it at fault. I decided to do nothing about the "problem", and so far so good. I have heard it may take a while to filter through though.

I have watched a lot of the websites that are not mobile. I have not seen any changes yet. I don't know if it was a scare tactic to get the sites that are not mobile to upgrade, but it really seems like that.

With mobile growing at the rate it is, businesses should be prepared with mobile friendly websites regardless of Google's updates.

This is in line with 'a change with the times'. People are using mobile devices much more so it makes sense they should be optimised in a friendly way.
