Google shopping sync with Magento V 1.4

We are having issues submitting a google base shopping feed automaticly from the back end of Magento v 1.4.

My web designer has told me that Google has updated Google shopping and it only now works with Magento V1.5 and not with 1.4, costing us more money to convert.

I have contacted 1 of my friends who runs a lower version of magento then us and he says his Google base sync is in full motion.

Can someone advise if this upgrade is actually needed just to allow Google base shopping?

They changed base recently to use EAN numbers (you know like how Amazon works) is it something to do with that? Magento forum may be better for this one? There are LOTS of people claiming to be magento specialists at the mo, bit the reality is the majority of them haven't a clue (other than installing it and skinning it up) the minute you need something even slightly technical many buckle.

yes, google base no longer works with magento 1.4x or lower

you will either have to upgrade to 1.5 or use a 3rd party tool like

or similar.

We configured this for a client last week and all seems well

we've always preferred using a standalone google base feed script

faster, more reliable and easier than the internal system.

upgrading is a good idea though, 1.5 is nice - though 1.6 is imminent so maybe hold off till then?

Hi Steffen,

Google fully retired (sunsetted) the Google Base API on 1st June 2011, it's not a Magento version issue.

Merchants using the Google Base API to upload products now have to migrate to the new Google Content API.

The best solution we've found (and the one we've successfully implemented for our clients) is to use this extension - Google Content API For Shopping

anyone else come across any google shopping extensions for 1.4.2.0 other than the one above as i have that problem too now as it's taken months to get the site right and upgrading will probably mess everything and cost more money.

trying to find a cheaper or free option but don't think one exists. Also trying to find an extension where featured products and up sell products are displayed randomly but from certain categories not all?

Hi We use the Magento Version 1.4.1.1 and yes it did just stop working overnight. we have since purchased an extension from WYOMIND that has done the trick for us.

The Wyomind extension seems to prepare a feed for google shopping cart, while the gomage feed pro does google mail and a few others like ebay, amazon etc, but at a cost. Presumably the feeds need to be dressed up slightly differently for each listing website/portal.

Are there any other options out there? I'm sure the scripts can also be written from scratch although perhaps not cost effectively. Obviously having something that plugs your products into the other major shop search platforms would an extremely useful thing

We also have a php script that works with 1.4.0.1 and still seems to be OK - you'd need to adapt it to your store but it took me about half-an-hour to knock up so I'd expect your web developer could do it if you can't...

As an aside, does anyone have any tips for optimising Google Shopping feeds? Having real difficulty in getting our products to appear for any generic search terms, but it must be possible....

And anyone on a more recent Magento version - what have you found the main advantages to be of upgrading to 1.5 or 1.6?
