Garden services-Need help on business name!

    Hi

    I've decided to bite the bullet and go it along with a new business venture.

    Initially i'm thinking of a garden maintenance theme, concentrating on decking cleaning/restoring, shed and fence painting and patio cleaning and am stuck for a name!

    It's not that i'm short of idea's for a name it's just deciding on one which is catchy and gets the message across and one which hopefully I won't regret too soon down the line.

    So far i've come up with:


    The Decking Doctor

    The Professional Garden cleaning company

    The Decking Restorator

    Garden Solutions

    Unsure whether to be more generic in the title stating 'garden services' or more niche and go down the 'decking cleaning' service as a name and then mention what services I can offer in addition to decking cleaning?


    Any advice would be appreciated and aware that deciding on a name is only a small small detail compared to then marketing/gaining business.

    I would go for a more generic name as the more specific ones will alienate 99 % of your potential clients. Use your marketing to target specific markets instead.

    I'd be looking at something with Garden Maintenance in the name to reinforce what you actually do.

    I'm all for keeping it simple and clear.

    Good luck with the new venture.

    Good to see your taking the plunge and giving things a shot. I find names quite tough but are an essential part of your business. I quite like something along the lines of 'Restoradeck' - spelling could be altered. If your marketing is up to scratch, I'm sure things would prove a success.

    Thanks for the response you lot.

    I've spent 10 plus years in insurance and need a change and it's funny as if anyone else starts talking about a new business venture i'm full of decisive info and idea's for them but when it's your own, and your own money, I guess you want 'right' from the word go..well as dam near 'right'!

    I've done my homework on local advertising and the options are huge depending on coverage required, plus I think i'll get some professional looking leaflets printed as well.

    I've also checked out some competition and, where possible, try to get some idea of what they quote.

    This is business name of the moment..!!

    That name is really going to limit your market. And wont do your credibility any good either. It says to me that you are a man with a pressure washer.

    How will you stop decking getting slippery in the winter? Do you know the difference in approach needed to clean Indian sandstone paving as opposed to handmade moulded concrete? How would pointed and butt jointed paving differ in approach. What would you do about weeds growing through gaps in decking or paving? Glyphosphate good / bad?

    As you have probably gathered, I know the answers to all these questions. Do you?

    As now I make a lot more than £ 50 k a year. Is the honest answer.

    It was a good income whilst I was studying though. I did do it for a while after uni as well, but not for long. I sold the business to an employee. I was doing peoples gardens for about 6 years in total. That coupled with the fact that I studied marketing at University and am now a marketing consultant puts me in a pretty stong position to give you some good advice.     Garden Solutions also sounds very pro, I like it.


    But what about the services of patio/decking cleaning. Do these tie in with the title 'Garden Solutions' or is that complicating matters.

    Wanted more to go down that decking/patio cleaning as well as general garden maintenance.

    hmm. Maybe too much and perhaps should concentrate on one service.

    Personally - Sorry Glow but i dont like Gardening Up .. Its great with an explaination of Washing Up, but without i think its a little naff.

    Definitely be generic to a degree because for instance people may not have much in the way of decking in the future, thus rendering your company name useless.

    Decking in the UK is a relatively new trend, many years ago no one really bothered with it. It's only over recent years we've all decided that we want wooden decking over and above slabs. For that reason and others I'd stick to generic terms for garden maintenence.

    My issue with Garden Solutions is that you are sticking to things like sheds, flooring etc, and by saying Garden Solutions it could be misconstrued that you offer all sorts of solutions such as actual gardening/landscaping.

    So ideally something that is half way between generic and specific is required?

    So I can't be too specific in the title but not too generic as to give the impression I can do things that aren't on my list.

    So far I have....

    Gardening Up (is still good but maybe too generic and doesn't flow that well)

    Gardening Solutions (may give the impression I offer more than I actually do)

    What about...

    Exterior Home Solutions (I don't think flows well but more specific on what I do)

    The Decking Doctor (Bit specific and already taken)

    It continues....

    I've googled Decking doctor and that has been taken but I like it although pin points me in the title.

    On further research I've found a national franchise company for decking/patio and driveway cleaning and all their names are really to the point i.e AJS jet Washing Services but they solely just restore drives/patios decking etc..

    Maybe for this I don't need clever market branding, maybe just say exactly what it does on the tin.

    You need to decide exactly what services you are willing to offer. You are right, the name should be basic and tell people exactly what you do.

    I wouldn't keep going on about cleaning decking and patios if I were you Mojjo. Try and get a variety of garden related jobs and reflect this in the name of your business. I guarantee that you will get sick of cleaning decks and patios very quickly if this is your main line of work.

    My minds flowing a bit more now, what about:

    Home-atherapy

    Exterior Cleaning & Restoration


    or


    The Patiotherapist

    Exterior Cleaning & Restoration


    After reading that article it mentioned chopping and changing old words to make new words...sound s fun

    So are you offering general gardening services or is it purely cleaning etc?

    I think it works if on the line below I include the strap line 'Exterior Cleaning & Restoration'

    FAO of Stretchy. Hi and yes as you're aware i'm on the cusp of which way to go, more generic garden maintenance or concentrate on the cleaning side (learning will be required). Nothing's a dead-set at the mo as waying up the pro's and con's
