Franking Machine...proof of postage

Hi Guys,

I have invested in a franking machine to beat the postal price rise on stamps.

I am just waiting for the machine to be installed which should be done in the next week or two.

What I cant seem to find any information on is proof of postage for franked mail.

Is it possible to take the items down to the local post office and obtain computerised proof of postage/receipt for each item, I know the post office may not be over the moon about this but is it something they can refuse.

I have looked at the bulk certificate of posting but this would prove a problem if 2 or more items went missing as we would need to send the original in for the 1st item and we wouldnt be able to do anything about the other items as the post office would not be sending us the proof of postage back.

Anyone have a franking machine and already do this?

Best Regards

Khalid

Yes, we have a book which we log all our outgoing franked mail, we write the weight of each parcel on the individual parcel then the local Post Office put's it through their system and give us a computerised receipt.

Hi

Thanks for your responses, I need the proof of postage to claim for any lost post that RM blunder up.

How long has this non compenation going on for as I only just got paid out last week for an item that went missing in their network, we send most of our goods with 1st Class Large stamps!

Very surprised and worreid about the above comments and will be checking with RM tommorow, surley they cant get away with this.

Pretty much all our items are Large Letters and Packets, where we can we make the customer pay for a tracked service (signed for) but we also offer free postage on lower value goods that we send using 1st Class Large.

This is what the computerised proof of postage recepit states at the bottom:

Standard Compensation. For lost or damaged items, compensation up to 100 times the price of a basic weight 1st Class stamp will only be paid with this receipt. To claim call 08457 740 740 or pick up a form at a Post Office branch.

Surley they cannot go back on this it would be illegal.
