If you haven't heard, Marky Mark Zuckerberg and his crew have changed the holding name of Facebook to META ...

The switch in brand and vision is due to the exploration of the tech giants into the Metaverse (****** & blockchain, decentraland) as they ultimately want to be at the forefront of the coming web revolution.

What are your thoughts on this move by Facebook... or should I say META?

Is anyone on the forum deep in knowledge of the coming web revolution and metaverse?
 
ISN’T IT AGAINST FORUM ETIQUETTE TO SHOUT IN CAPITALS?

Isn’t Facebook just for attention seeking teenage mums doing weird duck-pout faces now anyway?

And whats the betting they payed someone one millions to come up with this and oh dear now we have to change all the pens, mouse mats, signs the list goes on ....... and who really cares

Meta is a good name, as it draws attention to the fact that they have all the data, given up freely by the public, and they can sell it for gazillions without the consent of the public.

But actually, it's corporate stuff. It will continue to be a platform that is nice for keeping in touch with old associates, creams your personal data, advertises the thing you bought yesterday in your face, and hides your posts from more than three quarters of your desired audience.

If you have a big advertising budget, of course, you can pay to advertise your stuff to people who bought something similar yesterday.

I love it.

That's a bit harsh! I think it has evolved a bit more than that now.

They may soon be the biggest cooperation on the planet alongside UKBF!

Yep, because the people who log onto Facebook are the "product" and the advertisers and data miners are the "customers".

Err, hope that's a typo colleague or we to have a need a meeting in the office :eek:. There definitely won't be a "cooperation" between us and Facebook o_O:).

I think, from a corporate perspective, it makes total sense to have a holding name that is different from your original product. The fact that Facebook was the internet giant, but also the name of a ubiquitous social media platform, lead to, I'm sure, lots of brand confusion. There were even two logos as of a few years ago: Facebook and FACEBOOK (which would be seen at the bottom of Whatsapp and Instagram).

It was an incredibly savvy move for (as it was then) Facebook to buy its biggest competitor, Instagram. Now there is a clear divide where Boomers use Facebook, millennials use Instagram, Gen X use a mix of the last two and Gen Z use TikTok.

And it is only that last market that FB/Meta doesn't seem to have a grasp on, so I presume they will try and go next. I also imagine that they hope (whether through development or acquisition) whatever comes next won't have Facebook's stink on it...

And whilst I am here - just in case anyone is a bit 'Doh!' Meta stands for The Metaverse and that is another word for The Matrix.

And now take a long, hard look at the amazingly close links between Big Tech, banking and the green movement and the moves being made on our behalf towards central planning and a central digital currency.

If you look at the zuckerborg’s vision of the future we won’t have to leave the house anymore. We will be permanently plugged into VR.

It will be like Total Recall

Rather than having to do things, we will just stay at home, think we are doing things and have the memories implanted in to our minds.

Like Lawnmower man for those old enough to remember that film. It's not fiction now though and is very much a reality. We have businesses who don't have physical offices but their staff work in a VR environment with their colleagues, and we have business meetings that exist now in VR, and VR trading platforms where you can shop and buy real products to be delivered to you and pay in real money; but the shopping is done through VR. It's here today so if anything, Facebook/Meta is a bit behind the times. :eek:

If they conquer the goggle-wearing problem, they've got a very, very big market.

Yes indeed. My original post had a bit more on how despised (rightly) Facebook is, but I cut it down because it got a bit long. All I ended wit, instead is a reference to Facebook's "stink", which barely manages to cover it. So, yeh, just to make it clear, trying to distance any future from endeavours from Facebook's brand will be absolutely due to FB's terrible reputation.

And I'm not sure if you're joking, but a boomer refers to a baby boomer ('generally defined as people born from 1946 to 1964', apparently)
