When buying a residential or commercial property 90% of house searches now start online. As such digital marketing is becoming increasingly important for estate agents and property developers.

I'm keen to find out what resources marketers within this sector currently use to make sure they are up to speed with the latest best practice?

Do these sources meet your expectations and is there scope for an industry specific website/magazine focused on digital marketing?

I’d really appreciate your thoughts

Rob

Of that 90% I bet 99% is done through rightmove.
Not much marketing is needed for that, you just pay them to publish the property on their site.

Property companies still need to market themselves not just to attract buyers but sellers too. Rightmove and Zoopla are just part of the overall marketing mix. They also need to consider social media, SEO , web design, email marketing and whole host of other elements.

My question is where do property companies go to be kept up to date with the latest info on digital marketing.

The large companies will do it themselves. The more modern smaller companies will do it themselves I think - in the sense up just putting property details on fb/twitter.

The majority of estate agents get business by being on the high street. The internet based ones I imagine do it through boards on other peoples properties or SEO for something like online/cheap online estate agents.

Indeed, the majority of estate agents will do their own marketing and a small amount will outsource to an agency/consultancy.

What I'm looking to find out is if there are particular websites/magazines that cover best practice for digital marketing specific to the property sector? Are there sources of information to help the marketeres or do they just use standard digital marketing websites such as eConsultancy.com, Marketingweek, The Drum etc.
Would anyone working in this industry find it useful to have a resource about digital marketing, specific to the property sector?

Rather than creating an online resource centre or magazine, why don't you just do the online marketing for the estate agents directly? Or are planning on gaining clients via the online resource/magazine?

I havnt heard of anything specific for real estate marketing before. It could be a good idea to start something like that. But I think most of these companies just do the standard online marketing strategies everyone else does.

No matter the product/service, most searches are going to start online nowadays regardless of industry.

I don't honestly think you would get enough footfall of people wanting to view property specific SEO or digital marketing as it's very similar for most industries with a few differing styles and tactics here and there. A post on MOZ would probably suffice! If you're keen though why not just make a blog about it?
